I highly doubt you beat up a blackbelt and if you did by some lucky freak chance of nature then it was because you caught him off guard or used some cheapo behind the back dirty tactic that would take out most anyone.
If you want a blackbelt then spend the time training needed to earn one. Blackbelts are not earned by who you can beat up nor does having one mean you can beat up anyone you come across or face.

No. Just because the defeated individual has a black belt does not mean anything. A lot of gyms require that you pay your dues and show up to class in order to get the belt, and/or the individual may not be very dedicated to his/her art. Many arts have been down graded to sports. Most martial arts instructors have never been in a life or death situation and do not teach toward that kind of situation. Besides... many martial arts schools are geared for tournaments(unfortunately) because the flash and glam is where the money is. Tournament fighters would rarely stand a chance in an actual street fight or self defense situation.

Its not like it used to be. Today, a 6 year old can get a black belt. All you have to do now is find a school(which are most) that will take your money and teach you the kata you need to know and how to break a board.
It doesn't include the guarantee that you can fight...just that you can pass the things they setup for you to do.
When I first started out...you had to earn your white belt. Today it is given with the uniform.
In order to belt, and get a solid color, I had to take two tests, one test for the stripes and another one for the solid color. What I studied only had 4 belts(white, green, brown, black). You progressed at your pace, but in order to get a black belt, you had to prove that you could fight.
After doing 1 hour of exercises, kata, and proving you knew the techniques, you had to full contact spar with 10 other students and either put them down or last 'x' minutes without going down yourself.
They don't do that anymore.
Besides, belts mean nothing anyway. I knew most of everything I was going to learn when I was a green belt.

Your question is an IF, did you? I don't know....
Now let me say this, there are schools of martial arts, every one is different in its grading. Like some of them said here if you have the money, and SOME talent you can pass.
Black belts take yrs of training, in the right schools who teach you the right way, it would take a good opponent to match him.
I have seen a lot of blue and brown belts in my dojos who can be the victor over many black belts in other schools.
So IF you do see a black belt worn by a individual in an other dojo, show respect. Don't try to be cocky.
So there is much more than the black belt holder he shows honor and respect too with all the other virtues they learn in the art.
I always tell my students in a street fight, and there is only one,
let him start in on you but never let him enter into your sphere of invisibility that circles you, only you know the distance when he enters use one of the six pilars of that you walked in the path of mobility. never let him get close to you so he can get you to the ground, use his momentum against himself and flip him with one of the pillars you were taught to the ground and control him with an wrist or arm lock. But you control him and etc. as taught.
Peace.....

Wouldn't it be funny if it worked that way! No, though, I doubt anyone would recognize you as a blackbelt just for beating one up.

So YUP when I kick your *** that means you don't deserve your 3rd dan? Belts mean crap. Any average streetfighter can kick the crap out of a "black belt" Any below average fighter could do the same. Those belts are given for learning kata and keeping the cash flow going. ONLY thing needed to get a black belt. kata and cash. Cash more than kata. If you could kick the butt of a black belt and gain there belt, I'd have a house full of them, just to collect. I like the idea. From now on if you kick the butt of a black belt you get there belt. New Rule !

Haha...I don't think that's how it works. From what I understand you have to go through years of mental as well as physical training to become a blackbelt, and just because you beat one up doesn't make you one.
Just because you beat up your grandfather, doesn't mean you're a grandfather.

no, not at all. having a black belt doesn't mean your the greatest fighter. having a black belt shows that you have the experience. It shows that youve been there for a long time, understand what your doing and why your doing it. if i were to wlak up to a white belt that was a good fighter, nd ask him, "show me a jumping spinning crescent kick" would he be able to, no probably not because he lacks experience. keep training hard earn the rank, then you can call yourself a black belt.

If you have 'beaten on up' be careful as this might be a tactic that you have not considered ... taking you higher to drop you from a greater height. Remember its a sport not the stuff you see in the films - though some are really quite good entertainment

A black belt is a rank that's earned through years of training and studying, it does not give you the power of invincibility, it simply symbolizes what you've learned.
If you beat a black belt is simply means that you were more capable at the moment, nothing more.
