To change a Microsoft works document to a pdf file this is an example that i usually use and this method does work you open the file go to the file menu click save as go to the bar below the file name change to .doc then save you can open it in openoffice or Microsoft word and it does not matter which one you use and there is an option that says export as pdf it will then export as a pdf file most likely to your desktop and then you can open it with any pdf file viewer or editer

I've done this once! I'm using Vista Home Basic, and when I clicked on the top right hand corner of the open Adobe reader it took me to the site. I then was given the option of having 5 free converted documents. It talked me through everything which is a good job as I am the original Muppet when it comes to computers!

Easiest application I've seen is PDFCreator (a free project on SourceForget.net). PDFCreator acts like a printer so pretty much any application can be output to a PDF.
