This is a question I have been pondering for several years.

I am not in favor of hunter-killers that are completely autonomous. I think a human must make the decision to fire.

With respect to some of the things you may see on TV, what are called robots are basically remote controlled machines, and that is OK.

Look at it like this.
A door HAS to be opened, you can send 1 of your men or you can send a robot.
There is a good chance that there is a real nasty smelling dude with a rifle on the other side of the door.
Who's mother would you rather write if something went wrong, the man's or the machine's ?

Maybe the Terminator movies had something we
should pay attention to.
It might be turn out to be a good idea, depending who gets
their hands on it first. But, it will happen, it's just a matter
of time. But, the way testing is going, it might not happen
until way after our time. Or, so I hear.

Jake - you're scaring me.

So your talking about Robo Cop, malfunctions would be the end of that.
That brings us to Terminator...

If you remember in Robocop there was a prototype built for the army that killed one of the board members.

perfectly good idea. Sooner or later there will be a malfunction and someone will die that shouldn't. that will be a learning opportunity.
several such learning opportunities and i'm sure we'll learn how to keep them from killing us...

nope...somehow, giving a machine a weapon when the machine can be:

1. taken over by someone Else's instructions or

2. self awakens...and it is armed

just doesn't appeal to me.
