I have a love/hate relationship with the military. I have to quote something (poorly) from an unknown source which has, however given me strength.
Most people go through their lives wondering if they are making a difference. Soldiers don't have this problem.
It is as true as it is short. There is also a sense of family that you get in the military that you will not find in many other institutions. you may hate your brothers, sisters, aunts or uncles at times, but they are blood and bonded to you as no outsider will ever be.

I was drafted in 1968, served my two years, had 17 months in Germany, used the GI Bill to pay for grad school.
I met some of the nicest people in the world in the Army. It seems that all of my friends were military police "Tower Rats".

It has been a great experience so far lots of chances to do different things and meet new people. The Army is what you make of it what you put in is what you get back the harder you work to make yourself better the more you are rewarded those people that didn't like it where probably shitbags and nobody wanted them in the Army so they probably got kicked out. I am a SSG with 8 yrs in.

Love it. The Army has provided me an opportunity to live in Europe, earn a bachelors and masters degree, and grow as a person and a leader.

It is OK as long as you do not take a job in any combat MOS's. Combat MOS's will NOT give you an opportunity to go to college while you are in the service. Anyone you tells you otherwise is LYING. You are always training or in the field. The military in general is not for everybody. I personally believe every male should have to do 2 years. Also, it doesn't pay worth a crap if you are an enlisted person.

Lots and lots of hard work. And equal amounts of pride.
And best of all - being given the opportunity to 'make a difference.'
