Hello, my name is Phil

Some of you may have heard about the growing Muslim population in the United Kingdom.

Great Britain is a great place. It was the center of the world for almost 200 years, is known for having built the largest Empire mankind has ever seen, and having a rich, unique culture at the same time.

However, all of that is changing. Recently, with the massive boom in Islamic immigrants to the UK, Muslim populations have begun to attack old paintings.

Not physically, of course, but they claim to be "offended" by paintings from around the 17th and 18th century.

Why? Why are these paintings being locked away? Because the women aren't wearing Burkas in the paintings. The Muslim religion says that women must never show lots of skin, and must always have their face covered.

They're trying to do away with old paintings that "offend" Muslims; but forcing women to wear Burkas is offensive to all the other cultures, no?

Your opinions?

Don't cave in!

Phil

Religious war?

Well I'll choose Jesus, but probably hide in a hole somewhere and wait out the nukes.

The entire point of this question is not to incite religious hatred...

Well actually you could say that. It is to display how people over in Europe should STOP caving into Islam.

Oh, and people say Europeans aren't "caving in" to them?

Take a look:

These are just two examples out of many.

And people call me a prick?

Hmm.

Isn't anyone else angry about how we're being forced to forget the holocaust because we might offend Muslims?

Personally, I've had enough.

We are forced to edit and confiscate passports on the grounds that shoulders are showing.

We fall away.

Old paintings are "put away" because women have skin showing.

We fall away.

We are virtually forced to FORGET THE HOLOCAUST BECAUSE IT MIGHT OFFEND THE MUSLIMS!!!

No! HERE is where we draw the line in the sand and just say NO.

But... No, the appeasment of Islam at the expense of history itself continues.

Are we going to be forced to forget the terrible slaughter of six-million people?

Are we going to be forced to forget the sacrifices made by brave men and women throughout the last century to deal a crushing blow to facism?

Are we to forget the fourteen MILLION allied soldiers who gave their LIVES to stop the holocaust?

NO, I've had ENOUGH!

Wow!! "Great nation" ? Britain? Please give me a break!! If I start recounting their horror stories it might take hours. So come out of your delusions of adequacy please.

You can keep your paintings!! Who cares? Of course, ideally a Muslim will not like to live in a soceity where the only sign of progress is disrobing female species. How progressive I must say!! But yes, there are some muslims who are there in YOUR Britain or other non muslim countries for varuious reasons. They do not have the right to bring about a change by force over there, that I agree. But if they do not appreciate your idea of "art" then what hurts you buddy!

I would draw an analogy for you here. What are you so caleld "developed" nations doing in the supposedly "poor third world countries" and trying to "reform" them. What were your glorious leaders Mr Bush and YOUR lofty PM Mr Blair doing in Iraq? "We are trying to start a democratic process there". That was the claim, Right? Did anyone invite them to? Ain't you criticizing there ways and "imposing" yourselves on them. Changing their whole lives, destroying their civilazation and I can go on and on....? What are they doing in the "poor third world hell hole"? Do I smell oil somewhere?
And you talk about Muslims being intolerant towards you "art. Gosh.... you make me sick!

And please when can you conceited individuals look at things in totality? Islam says "women" should do this, "women" should do that. If you are so much bothered about the supposed "plight" of women in Islam, have you ever tried studying what islam says about "men", their duties and their obligations and the rights of the women? Always ramping on the same theme, ain't you guys?

Take a chill pill Phil and come out of your glass house before throwing stones.

Your story is posted here only to create discord amongst communities. I have never heard of such a story. If Muslims were offended by such paintings they simply wouldn't go in there in the first place to look at them. it doesn't take a genius to understand that one.

if you are offended by the burka then that is your personal opinion you cannot use this flimsy excuse to explain why such paintings are locked away. Muslims are not the only people living in Great Britain.

and i hardly think that such a a big empire such as Great Britain as you have described is going to come under pressure in such a way and lock away it's heritage.

this story is false and only inciting religious hatred!

The feeling of being "Offended" or "Outraged" is a chosen or learnt one, it is not an automatic feeling that arises like Anger, Love, Joy, Hatred or Jealousy. Just as being offensive is also a learned and/or deliberate act to provoke the other person into takingoffence. An "Offended" person usually chooses to be offended in order to do 2 things:

1. To cover a bruised or shattered ego, arrogance or pride to let others know how pure and dignified that person is...

2. To be stubborn headed in order to create some chaos... trollers that responded to trollers in aggresive ways are some good examples.

I think your distaste is completely justified. Religion - all of em - are vile and stupid!! The idea that theres some invisible man in the sky who cares who you sleep with, what you eat, who you like etc is ******* insane. And all that violence, rape, torture, tribalism does nothing but cause huge rifts between people when there shouldn't be. The fact that you find islam a load of crap has no bearing on what you think of your parents. They buy into that **** but doesn't mean they're not good people worthy of your love. My dad is Christian and he's a lovely person but he doesn't apply critical thinking to this belief system and I suspect deep down he wants to buy it more than he actually does. I welcome you to the world of thinking people who are able to examine ideas, render them absurd and throw them away. We need more people like you!!

I think it unlikely that a Muslim would go to an art gallery where human images were shown if they felt strongly about it. Your story is not one I have read in the newspapers. Do you have a source for it?

In terms of influencing cultures that is something that America tries to do by invading countries or by covert means such as destabilizing their regimes.

Did you note this bit in the article:-

A third school found itself 'strongly challenged by some Christian parents for their treatment of the Arab-Israeli conflict-and the history of the state of Israel that did not accord with the teachings of their denomination'.

Only a certain faction within Islam would want women to wear Burkas.
Old paintings are art or not, if you don't like them, don't look at them, I say.
There should be freedom of choice, but with responsibility, we can all find something offensive, but they should not take away freedom of choice, if so, then what next.

May I laugh my a.ss off?! Plz!

"One of the largest empire mankind has ever seen, and having a rich, unique culture at the same time." ... Yeah... right... whatever u say!

But to clear things up... are you talking about the same "Great Britain" that COLONIZED lots of other countries who had their own beautiful culture?

Great Empires are like the Persian Empire with a king like Cyrus the Great...
Not a Queen like bloody Mary!

There aren't many things that muslims aren't offended by. I guess they were offended by my questions too: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070606115921AAET9AP&r=w

Did you ever wonder if muslims think that maybe their way of treating women might be offensive to us?
Good luck, I hope your question won't get deleted, but I'm not holding my breath. With all this political correctness around, it's nearly impossible for a person to speak their mind.

Objects of treasure and heritage must be left alone. These treasures define any nation. it sets periods of time in indellible record so that succeeding generations understand; it is a testament to their culture's character in its entirety.

A global nation is one where all views of life, culture and customs are respected-Holy texts as well as old paintings.

any culture that tries to influence other cultures based on their beliefs is sending a wrong message.
