My cat is 12 years old, he has lost weight, down to 8 lbs. He has had a growth on his face. The doctor removed some teeth and told me it was an infection. After 2 weeks of anitibotics the growth is worse. He drools and just stares at me. I took him back to the dr, and he is going to do a biopsy tomorrow. He thinks its cancer since it is so hard, and I kind of feel the same. My husband and I are splitting up and I am moving this weekend. I have 2 other 1 year old cats. I had planned to take them all. If its cancer, my choices are put him to sleep that day, or bring him home until he gets worse. Then I have to deside to bring him with me to my new apartment, and we all know cats dont like change. Or I could leave him with my husband at the house until its time, but would he be lonely for me and the other cats? I really am confussed and need some advice. This has been going on with Harry for about 4 months, he is very needed and does not let the other kittens around me.

He will go tomorrow morning for the biopsy. I think....if they tell me its cancer and that he is in pain I will have him put to sleep. To be honest I can tell he is in pain. He will sleep on that side of his face, I guess to put pressure on it. When I look at him,(he is very hairy and his name is Harry) his upper lip is raised (like Elvis), one side of his face is big, his eyes look drunk, and he is drooling. But.... he still purrs and loves to be rubbed on, and he is eating. Its just really hard. If he is not in pain I will take him with me. My daughter just returned home and she is the one that pointed out how horriable he looked. I guess I see him everyday so I did not notice as much, or want to notice anyway. He use to weigh 27 pounds back in the day and now he is down to 8.6. He has lost 2 pounds in a month, is that a lot for a cat? I will let everyone know what happens. I will know tomorrow. He has had a good life with a lot of love.

I know you are going through such a rough time right now. My honest opinion is your cat is sick cuz you are not happy. When my husband and I were separating I was really sick alot, couldnt eat, and neither did my dog! He is like my son, I will admit! But you should want your cat to stop hurting. After 12 yrs you know he has had a full life! You should put him down, and let him rest! I know how hard that would be, I promise. But with as sick as he is, he would defiantly need him mommy, and the move would not be good!

See what the vet says first. If it's cancer, you have to ask yourself if he's in pain or is he still happy, and can it be treated? If he's in pain and it can't be treated, then it may be time to let him go rather than put him through all the trauma of a move. If he's not in pain and/or he can be cured, take him with you. Yes, it will be stressful for him, but you're the most important part of his life, not the apartment.

I would take him with me. is there anyway he might be able tobe kept in a room away from the other cats unless you are home and with him.
This does sound like cancer and if it is please let him go if he is loosing tht much weight and it's growing tht fast than it's the best thing.
If he is so attached to you I'm afraid if you left him with your husband tht would just get him more upset.
As far as him not lettign the other cats near him is his wa of saying he isn't feeling right and even possibly in pain. just remember you have given him a very good life and it may just be his time please don't make him suffer.
Good Luck with all you are going through

oh this is a hard one. i have a 13 year old male and he was acting very weird for a few days. he wouldnt come near us and was always drooling. when we tried to pick him up he would run away or "tell" us no... we took him to the vet and found out his gum was infected due to a lose tooth that was hitting the gums. after they pulled it out and he was fine. we gave him anti biotics but he was walking around as if nothing had happend...

if my cat had cancer... i would probably put him to sleep. only because i would be so sad to see him that way. and if he is used to living with two other cats, he would be lonely if he had to live by himself, especially if you are not there... changing of enviornment is not caused by just moving, but imagine if you or the other kittens just dissapeared... i think he would be very sad.

I'm sorry to say this, but it really sounds like he's suffering -- and that's no way to live. If it can be cured, of course, spare no effort in bringing him back to the happy, healthy cat he used to be. But if you find that it is cancer or any other incurable problem (and it does sound like cancer) the kindest thing you can do for him is to have him put to sleep. I know it's really hard on you -- but it's better that he not suffer through a drawn-out, lingering, painful illness.

Celebrate his life -- but don't drag out his death. Good luck to you.

Take the cat with you and wait until the vet knows exactly what's wrong with him and then you can make an informed decision. The cat should be OK in his new apartment. I recently moved to a new home with my 3 cats and they are doing just fine. They love their new house. The got used to it right away. If your cat has just a few weeks left, he should spend them with you and the other cats.

i have a 13 year old choclate lab..., hes usualy a happy dog that loves to be outside and run around and he still is, but his age takein a toll on him he has a very bad smell comeing from his mouth, and a skin tumor on his side that sometimes gets dry and bleeds, we love em but were thinkin the best thing to do is let him go becuz not only is he in pain, but we as people got lives to move on with , if your cat is sick and you have to make a change maybe the best thing is for you to put him down n move on.

Its so hard to let go of our four-legged babies, but he sounds as if he has had enough. If the vet says they can't even keep comfortable, have someone come to the vets and let the poor guy go to where he isn't in pain anymore.
