Because 'more than' is 'más de'. 'Más que' = 'more that', which doesn't really make much sense in either language.

'Las palabras' because most Romance languages aren't happy with a noun without an article or adjective. E.g. Eng. 'Languages are fun' = Sp. 'The languages are fun.'

Con esAs cosas tengo muchos problemas.

¡Un beso a tí! :-)

JJ is correct - you can't say más que and mean "more than". You need to think of your English sentence as saying "I love you more than what words can say."

"more than what" = "más de lo que"

JJ is also correct in that you need to have an article (las in this case) in front of the noun (palabras).

Because without them it doesn't make any sense.
It's incomplete.
You can not bend the grammar rules in Spanish just like you can't bend them in any other language.
