If a vehicle fails the safety inspection, it cannot be operated beyond the expiration date of the current sticker. However, the owner has 30 days to correct any safety defects and qualify for a re-inspection at no additional cost, provided the owner presents a receipt of the initial inspection.

No mechanism for extensions. Unless you are good by the date, don't drive it.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

The NC DOT does issue emissions wavers in some cases. For general information on the requirements for the waver, view the following page (http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_services/emissioninspection/denialPenalties.html)

If you need to contact the DOT directly to find out whether your circumstances warrant an emissions waver, use the following link to obtain the contact information of the appropriate DOT office and contact them directly. (http://www.dmv.org/dmv-phone-numbers.php) Good luck!
