i realized that born again Chritians were usuallu on the wrong path [jail and drugs and so on] and then decded to find God. dont get me wrong i'm not saying all of them but most of them. for example this guy was trying to convert me and he kept on preaching and i asked him "look i'm not trying to disrespect you in anyway but i have a question, were you in jail, or were an alcoholic or did drugs?", he responded yes to all 3! like most of them had had some "demons " in their past and suddenly want God? like they found God in jail??? did you guys notice that?? or am i the only one?? reminder this is not meant to insult you in anyway.

My father was abusive and neglected (no, abandoned)his wife and kids and became a Born Again...funny thing is, he tried to tell US how he was forgiven and how we were going to hell.
Hypocracy.
Thumbs down? Why, you don't like my life story or is it because the truth hurts!

Many of Jesus' disciples were what you could consider less than noble people. Jesus had spent much time with those that were in need of the message of God.

God helps those who are sincerely needing and wanting help. You can't get any more sincere in want and need of help when you’re in prison.

If Jesus were here now instead of then he would be found in with the homeless and the wretches of society because that’s where God knows he is needed.

I think media and society put a bit more emphasis on this, because I know more “Born Again” Christians who are not prisoners. But I think when you are put in a position of complete hopelessness you will reach out to anything that can give you your will to live back.

Also since some jails do not allow any books in a jail cell other than a religious canon the bored prisoner has no choice but to read the word.

They discover that there is a freedom even inside of a prison when you allow God to come into your life. Also most of the people in Jail were there for doing something wrong and a lot just like to know there is one thing in the universe that will love them unconditionally and forgive them no matter they may have done.

I have found that a lot of people who had a very hard life, drugs, jail, etc.... when they finally DO find Jesus (Or Jesus finds them) they get such an amazing sense of relief and joy that they just are more open about sharing it with people.

People who have been Christians all their lives may tend to be a little less vocal about it.

These guys lives were extremely messed up and they turned it around and they want the same for others, can you blame them?

And after all Jesus himself said "I came to seek and save the lost"

I'm a born again Christian and I'm 18yrs old. I have never been to jail, been on drugs or anything like that. My parents taught me from a young age to be respectful and hardworking. Many people are struggling in this world, and yes, many have been to jail. But thank God that some of them were led to the Lord Jesus, accepted Him and climbed out of the pit they were living in. Also, MANY people that have been in jail or struggled with alchohol and drugs died WITHOUT the Lord. And I thank God for those that have been pulled out of that stuff and can stand and testify to what He has done. God is willing to save everyone that seeks Him. Including the murderers, alchoholics, abusers, and even those of us that think about doing things that are wrong. My next door neighbor needs to know God just as much as a man on deathrow.

I still remember this, one night when I was young, I sat on my dad's lap in the livingroom, and he asked me if I wanted to accept Jesus into my heart. We discussed it, and I said yes. I prayed to Jesus...and I was forgiven. That night myself was crucified and died, everything was gone...then I was reborn with a clean slate, all was white as snow. No matter what anyone has done, they can be born again and righteous only by faith, not by works.

Yes, it is called the redemptive power of God! These people are not hypocrites they KNOW the danger you are in and the fact that it does not give your soul what it needs to thrive. They wish for you to avoid the pitfalls they learned in life. How dare they!

This is a quote: "A wise person learns by others mistakes; a fool by their own."

One thing most people forget is that while God can redeem the most vile sinner He can also keep you on the straight and narrow and never experience the pitfalls in life. Not that I am perfect but I have never been drunk, ever had one hit off of an illegal drug, or sex with anyone save my wife. We have two wonderful kids, 13 years of marriage and are quite content.

I once told someone I just never did anything awful enough to get born again. I've led a very ordinary simple life, no drugs, sex or drinking or jail. No demons at all except for an attraction to chocolate.
I do know that not all born agains are like that, but their focus on sin leaves me cold. I'm glad for them, but that way of thinking will never work for me.

Yeah people often look for an escape from their problems. Christianity offers salvation. When someone is beaten down by life due to the bad decisions they made or because life simply dealt them a bad hand, they are often vulnerable to those who prey upon the weak. They fall into the traps of religion and then have a testimony.

No one ever says, "My life was just fine and suddenly I got saved." It is always the result of some kind of misfortune, whether it be tragedy, loneliness, or a desperate attempt to escape a bad situation (drugs, jail, etc.).

Of course you're not trying to insult. You're asking a great question that may or may not spawn an answer you are looking for. It's kind of like the situation with any drug addict or law breaker, you have to hit the bottom to make it back to the top. Their only way to make it back to the top is to find another way of thinking. In this case, it's a spiritual kind of thinking. I know lots of people that have hit rock bottom and find ways of rising up without being spiritual. It is frustrating to know that many people that come to you are "born again" because of those bad situations. We all hear ya out there, you aren't alone!

Maybe they are the kind of people Jesus died for. Ya know? He didn't come to save religion--He came to give us a life..and who needs it more than these who are least? Those who have nothing and nothing worth while, who probably should go to hell, but decided being born again couldn't be any worse than the life they WERE living. God changes people, and aren't we thankful He does and can?

Sometimes one must hit the bottom before they look up.

People only truly come to Christ when they realize how truly lost and hopeless they are without Him. For some, jail, withdrawals, divorce, sickness, etc., are what it takes.

Jesus said it like this: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." (Luke 5:32-33)
