Speakers don't put out watts, amplifiers do. (Although there are certainly some good amplified speakers out there if that's what you're really looking for.) But 700-800 watts per channel is way overkill for a home theater.

For good, loud, musical speakers, I love my Thiels. http://www.thielaudio.com/

It really depends on how much you want to spend. You can spend anywhere between $500 and $50,000 on tower speakers.

It also depends on what you mean by "put out a good 7 or 8 hundred watts". Speakers have power acceptance guidelines, but it's your AV receiver or amplifier that "puts out" wattage. Are you looking for a whole AV system or just speakers?

As far as speakers go, for a moderate budget, you might want to start looking at Klipsch RF-62 or the Definitive Technology Super Towers. They both put out a nice sound. In my opinion, the Klipsch speakers give you more for your money. Make sure you listen to both with your own CDs and DVDs before deciding.

An 800 watt per channel amplifier is a lot of money Have you got one. There are not many speakers around that can take 800 watts /channel Are you sure you want this It will cost you a small fortune .Can you get back to us on this one with more info. Thanks. If you want say an amplifier with 1000watts per channel of clean power The Chord mono blocks at $75,000 each will give you excellent sound. But we still need a preamplifier as well.

Actually, there is such a thing as an acoustic watt, which is an output measurement based on 100% efficiency. As memory serves, it is right around 113 db, and that means you are looking for something to put out about 142 db. That would be an excellent listening level for home theatre.

I think that if you have enough arrays of the JBL Vertec speakers, you will get that kind of output, and you will have the only one in your neighborhood. You will need several thousand watts of input, but who cares about that?

Happy listening!

speakers dont have "watts" like most believe. when you see a speaker and is says "200 watts" for example this is all marketing people who arent knowledgeable of loudspeakers think hey this one has more watts than the other one it must be better. NO! power has nothing to do with sound quality. I would look at KEF's floorstanding speakers they sells them at vanns.com they are superb.
