Expense-wise extractions are based on difficulty and if you decide to be put under, the sedation is a big portion of the expense.
If your general dentist thinks it is something he can do, to me that signifies that these are not too complicated to remove. Wisdom teeth are usually cone shape and can be removed quite easily especially if they are erupted (not still under the gum)
If I were going to have my wisdom teeth out,(again-been there done that!:o) ) I would still see an Oral Surgeon only because if there are any complications along the way he can handle them best.

We've all had our teeth pulled at one time or another, to me, it is different to have a wisdom tooth pulled.
I've had my wisdom teeth taken out by an Oral Surgeon. I was completely out.
I would not let a dentist do it, I think an oral surgeon is more educated in extracting wisdoms.

Oral Surgeon. Never have a dentist do something a specialist can do. A general dentist is fine for general procedures, but whenever possible, always have a specialist do the hard work. Major extractions should be done by an oral surgeon and root canals should be done by endodontist, ( especially on molars ). Specialist are highly trained in just that field and have all the latest tools and skills to perform the procedure correctly. It's what they do, day in and day out. You'll be very happy you went to a specialist!!

I went to an oral surgeon, and all he did was numb it up real good and pull. So it depends on how easy the tooth will come out. If it has to be cut out then I would go with the oral surgeon. If it can be easily pulled the I would stay at the dentist.

I can't understand why a dentist would want to put a filling in a wisdom tooth...They are the last teeth to come in and the first to go. They get impacted and cause lots of problems... They should be pulled. I had 4 pulled in one day when I was in the Navy in 1956. What butchers.... hardly gave me anything for the pain. They were so rough that I was spitting out pieces of jawbone for weeks. I was in lots of pain for a couple of days. Of course, now they don't make you endure lots of pain.... Your best bet would be an oral surgeon.

If the tooth is not impacted (i.e. if it isn't coming in sideways and still buried under the gums) a dentist should be fine.
If it is impacted, though, it has to be carved out. And an oral surgeon is much better for that.

I had my dentist do it. It was not that bad. They numb your tooth so you can't even feel it. Besides that, I am sure the dentist will be cheaper than the oral surgeon.

Mine were impacted, so I went to an oral surgeon. I do have insurance though. You can also apply for Care Credit, it is a card that can be used interest free for a period of time.. You can apply online.

HELLO,
IF THIS EXTRACTION IS NOT DIFFICULT AND YOUR DENTIST IS CONFIDENT THAT HE CAN DO IT, THEN GO WITH HIM. THE PRICE WILL BE MORE REASONABLE THAN THE ORAL SURGEON.
