your gunna have to find a good artist to apprentice under and your gunna have to pay him I have never heard of anyone teaching for free, your also going to need to put a portfolio together. My husband hung around shops for a long time before someone would apprentice him...and that was 9 years ago. Now its going to be harder but if you really want it you wont let anything get in your way and youll respect the tradition and do this the right way.

i would say no. tattoo shops are not "happy" to take on apprentices because they hate to see crappy tattoo artists out there. as far as i know reputable shops will only help someone if they are an actual artist and if they have shown extreme dedication to the art of tattooing and usually they must agree to be a shop hand for a while before they are allowed to learn anything. they have to be willing to do grunt work, cleaning and sweeping, whatever the artists need. any shop who will take someone off of the street and teach them how to tattoo is not doing the industry any good. true tattoo artists take years to perfect their techniques and only the best deserve to tattoo people. sadly that is not always the way things are done.

It depends on the parlor. I've gotten an apprentice through a parlor where I work for free and get lots of hands on experience, but I am good friends with the owner. Other places may require you to pay them.

There are a lot of people wanting apprenticeships, so it's very competitive. Not every artist is ready to take one on. You need to be experienced. There is also a big commitment in teaching someone your art. It takes a lot of time.

If you're looking for one, keep trying, it may take a while! If it's what you want to do, the hard work is worth the effort

Depends. Most of tattoo artist hate having someone breathing down their neck. I would go to a few shops and talk to the artist themselves. They can be very particular.

probably not, if you aren't good at it, and do one bad tattoo, it will get around and tarnish their name forever.
