It's a controversial cure because they take the brain cells from an aborted baby and use it to treat the disease. That what my science teacher told me that the government won't allow it because there would be a lot of controvery. You know there will be people protesting against that and that' probably why to just avoid all of this.....the government won't allow it. I know abortion is wrong, however, a woman isn't going to have an abortion just to cure Alzheimer's. For whatever reason they are getting it is their choice and not mines and if they are going to do it they might as well give the baby's brain cells and help cure a disease. I'm not saying they should just kill a baby just to add an extra few years to an older person's life, however, woman get abortions so they don't have to deal with taking care of a child. If they going to do it anyways......might as well. What do you all think?

The stem cells taken from the baby work very well, but the problem is that they have to shock the cells with a certain signal so that they know to become certain brain cells.
When they tested it in rats, the rats showed positive results after two or three weeks.
After a month, a significant number started to develop tumors.
This is because not all the cells received the electric impulse to become brain cells and just kept dividing.
The cells that they take from the baby are pluripotent, they have something called telomerase that keeps them dividing endlessly.
In essence, those cells are immortal. They won't eventually die like normal cells because of the telomerase - this enzyme builds up the ends of the DNA that come off after each cell division.
They've also tried taking adult stem cells and shocking them so that they would go back to the pluripotent stage, but the problem is still the tumors that develop.
So really, the problem isn't even abortions and killing babies.
The cure is still too risky and problematic.

You're talking about a science called "stem cell research." It is a very promising science, which doctors believe will eventually cure many different diseases. We have not reached that stage yet. Fetuses are aborted by the thousands all over the world. The cells could be used for research to cure disease, but in America, it is currently forbidden, except for a small line of cells that already exist. Do not confuse cells with babies. A baby is a person. A cell is a potential.

yes however it involves stem cells and those are impossible to get without killing an infant
