The preschool program I work in holds on end of the year potluck every year. The biggest hit with the children are finger (or tea) sandwiches. You can make some with peanut butter and jelly (if there are no nut allergies), some with cheese and mustard, and some with some cold cuts like ham and turkey. I promise you, there will be no leftovers!

I bet nobody will think of bringing beans, here's a great recipe: Sweet Bourbon Baked Beans (10-13 1/3 servings ) 7/8 lb bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 2/3 onions, chopped 5 (16 ounce) cans baked beans 1 2/3 (15 ounce) kidney beans, drained 3 1/3 tablespoons dark molasses 3 1/3 tablespoons dark brown sugar 5/8 cup bourbon 7/8 cup chili sauce 1 2/3 teaspoons dry mustard 1 2/3 teaspoons cinnamon Preheat oven to 350º. Cook bacon until crisp, drain and set aside, saving bacon drippings. Saute onions in bacon drippings. In a bowl, mix the beans together with the onions, mustard, molasses, sugar, bourbon, chili sauce and cinnamon. Add the bacon bits and fold in gently. Pour into a 2 quart bean pot or casserole. Bake covered for 40 minutes. Let stand 15 minutes before serving. Bring this to the party, arrive a few mins early and put this in the oven or cook at home and transfer in something that will keep them warm. Have a great time....

I brought homemade mac & cheese to a potluck at my son's preschool and it was a big hit with all ages.
Generally, anything that you can pick up at the grocery store (cupcakes, fruit or veggie trays, sandwich platters) will be covered already.

My 3 year old loves guacamole. He also likes simple quesadillas - these are pretty good cold too.
On holidays, when growing up, we always made this thing called the Orbit. Where you stick like cubes of cheese, olives, etc, on toothpics and into a grapefruit. The food wouldnt be fancy, but it would be fun to have your kids help with. As long as no one gets pokey with the toothpicks.

Smashed potatoes-make mashed potatoes as you normally would and mix in sour cream, cheddar cheese and bacon bits (real ones not the crunchy kind). If you are short on time you can prepare it with instant potato flakes and no one can tell.
Fruit kabobs-skewer chunks of watermelon, pinepple, grapes, canteloupe, strawberries, etc. on popsicle sticks. You can serve with yogurt for dipping if you'd like.
Or you can make various sandwiches (cheese, ham, bologna) and use cookie cutters to make different shapes.

A great, big, huge FRUIT TRAY! Toddlers LOVE fresh fruit!!!! Oh, plus if you want to make it yourself..... You could easily do that this time of year with all the fresh fruit in season.... If you want to get fancier than a fruit tray.... You could make a big fruit salad!!! There are some great recipes out there. And you know the toddlers love "Fruit Salad" because of that song by The Wiggles!!!! "Fruit salad, yummy yummy!" LoL Sounds like FUN to me!!!!

How about cheese and crackers or a veggie tray? The veggies are a good idea in that you can discuss the physical aspects of the veggies like their color, shape and texture.
