Can I start using my GI bill as soon as I get out of AIT school? I want to start taking classes right away (online) even if I am over seas. Can I do this?

Right now the military (all branches) have 100% tuition assistance up to a certain limit per year. I'm not sure of the amount, but most folks never hit that max unless they are doing graduate work. The only thing you have to pay for is your books. With that, there is no need to use your GI Bill! Save it for when you get out!

All bases have an education office which will help you do everything you need to do to start your college work. I admire your desire to not waste time in getting started! There are several univ. that work with the bases, and often have classes on base, as well as on-line. The most common one that you will find overseas is University of Maryland.

Do take advantage of what your Ed office has to offer! They are there for you and to help you become your best! Good luck with your education!!

No. You need to have been discharged already. I believe you lose the GI Bill if you get a dishonorable discharge...check that out though.

But, they may have discounted schooling for military. I took some classes with the University of Maryland (Asian division) when I was stationed in Guam. It wasn't overly expensive.

You won't have much free time though.

Good luck.

Yes you can. As soon as you get to your first duty station, contact the local military education office. You can start using part of your educational benefit. You might also qualify for free tuition, and an online program called eArmyU which you can read up on once you have an Army AKO email account. There is a ton of info on AKO about this. If you haven't shipped out yet, have your recruiter help you set up an AKO account and check it out.
