I have to agree with you and say Lufthansa - amazing flight attendants and virtually peaceful flying for hours on end!!

International airlines: Lufthansa is very good. SAS, KLM, Singapore Airlines, and Air New Zealand are all excellent as well.
Domestic airlines: Continental, Northwest, and American are the three best. JetBlue is the best of the "low-fare" airlines - and it's a pretty good airline overall.
WORST airlines: Southwest, and the number one worst airline is United Airlines.

I have flown Lufthansa and it was pretty good, however both Virgin Atlantic and Jet Blue are better. I have flown most of the major western carriers, and those two are head and shoulders above the rest.

jetBlue is good, so is Continental as far as US airlines go. I've not flown on any Asian carriers. Lufthansa is fairly good as well as Aer Lingus. Business class on Air France is alright.

In America, my favourite is Midwest Airlines. They have huge seats with extendable headrests and footrests. They also have the best buy on board food I have ever eaten. Continental comes in second place. Internationally, I like Qantas, and KLM is not too bad.

I've flown several transatlantic flights with British Airways, their business class is great. Service is pretty good too.
As for domestic, I think Southwest and Jetblue both do a great job.

United for flights to Asia, especially China. Their mileage plus program is also very good. Just used my mileage for a free ticket to Shanghai (usually costs $900-1200). Northwest has lower prices, but more conncecting flights for the same itinerary.
