My doctor diagnosed this about a month ago and some days I feel great and other days I feel a constant dull ache and pain. Does anyone have this issue and how long does it normally last?

See Your Doctor
While these symptoms usually improve within a few weeks, and resolve completely within a few months, there are patients in whom this problem persists for some time. See your doctor to ensure nothing more serious is going on. Occasionally, costochondritis will be treated with cortisone injections, but this must be discussed with your doctor.

Costochondritis usually goes away on its own. The pain usually lasts a Month or two and then resolves.

To ease your pain until it fades, your doctor may recommend:

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and naproxen (Aleve).

Antidepressants, specifically a category of medicines called tricyclic antidepressants, if pain is making it difficult to sleep at night.

Muscle relaxants, which can also help ease pain.

See a massage therapist as soon as possible to relieve the pain.

Costochondritis is a pain in the Chest, that may mimic a heart attack but its unlikely it will. It is actually imflamation on the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum).
There is really no cause of this, it just happens to some people. And to be honest you really can't treat it, but it will go away on its own in time. It shouldn't last very long.
