If your dog is an adult, I would feed about 3/4 cup in the morning and 3/4 cup in the evening. What doesn't get eaten in about 15 minutes gets taken away. Then go out to potty after each meal. If your new dog is a puppy, then feed 3 times a day. Some tiny breeds tend towards low blood sugar, Chihuahuas, Japanese Chins, and they could use a little snack in the middle of the day. Also, 1.5 cups a day is just a starting point because depending on exercise and metabolism etc, you dog may need more or less per day.

Twice a day is usually recommended. Would you want to just eat one meal a day? At least by breaking it up to 3/4 cup twice a day you know she's not going to feel hungry all the time.
Do NOT leave food down for her all the time. Many reasons for this. Just a few include:
1. regular feeding times means regular potty times. Much easier to house train her.
2. you'll be able to see if she's eating everything or not. Otherwise she could be off her food for several days before you notice.
3. it's a humane training method. You're the one who provides and controls the food so she must respect you.
4. if you add another dog to the family they may end up fighting over the food bowl.

I think it is better to feed a couple of smaller meals a day. Also remember that dog food bag recommendations are often high for the amount fed (they are trying to sell more food, you know).
I have a 10# Boston -- she eats about 2/3 c per day, a 12# MinPin - 2yo wildman! he eats about 1 c per day, 12yo 10# MinPin -- he eats 1/2 c per day and a 6yo Boxer 75# -- she eats 1 3/4 c per day. If your dog food is complete and high quality less is better than more.
Although they should not stick out -- you should be able to see and feel ribs on your dog. By see, I mean when the dog wals you can see the musculature over the ribs and tell there are ribs there.

Kibbles and bits is not a very good dog food. I would feed her innova evo, which you can go online to see where you can buy it in your area. It is 95% meat, and is good for dogs. I free feed my dogs, which means I leave the food out all the time, and they eat when they want. It works for me. If your dog eats 2 much, or finishes the whole bowl at one sitting, than maybe you should just feed her once a day.

As a small puppy, the dog should be fed 2-3 times a day with the portion split among feedings. If it is an adult dog, it could eat once a day.

What I would do is to take the bag of Kibbles N Bits and throw it in the garbage.. Then I would go to the store and buy her some real quality dogfood.. Kibbles N Bits isn't safe to put in the landfill site, it should never be fed to a dog, or anything else for that matter...

I know you didn't ask about the kind of food, but I have to agree with Suzie. Kibbles 'n Bits is not a good food. My husband did a lot of research on dog food and I highly recommend Innova. Canidae and Wellness are also good brands. Please look into this if you can afford a better food. It is so much better for your dog. You'd be surprised by the facts if you do research on the quality of dog food out there.
Congrats and good luck with your new dog!

i'm definitely attempting to think of of a schedule to get my canines in, so right here is my concept: precise now: a million) Purina One 2) 2 nutrients according to day, 2 cups each and each meal, morning around 8:00 at nighttime around 6:00 3) No habitual, he in simple terms eats at those circumstances, and is going exterior on each and every occasion he needs (below supervision) 4) We feed Max Milk Bones, that's the sole cope with Max could have that may not make him ill and throw up. in some circumstances we feed him some table scraps like some Turkey from Thanksgiving. 5) a. Labrador/Pit combination ....b. Medium ....c. comfortable whilst he's drained and with the aid of his "nighttime time" and loopy whilst it is playtime ....d. approximately sixty 5, 70 lb 6) I took an obedience and Agility education classification with Max, and he's very obedient, i do no longer do plenty anymore, yet i visit start up Disc Flying i'm especially going to alter my habitual. Feeding precise on the dot, exercising a pair circumstances (30-40 minutes each and each consultation) and strolling 2 circumstances according to day. he's this type of wild canines, and could save on with you around in the process the day as a results of fact he's bored. He desires to be exercised, which desires to take place greater. Are you thinking of having a canines, or have already got one and in simple terms getting an concept what anybody else does? i could incredibly desire to hearken to your comments on those questions. **** upload: sometimes Max won't devour his breakfast, so he many times in simple terms has one meal according to day (2 cups)

It's better to feed her 2 times a day because if she eats it all at once, she could get a tummy ache. (Most dogs know when they are full though) Plus, if she is gets hungry, she'll have another time to eat.
