Water will not work. He loves it. Just comes back for more.

Tape either. Just plays with it.

As for out doors.... thinking that too.

He also has a cat tree. All the way to the ceiling. It's just another thing to jump from.

We had the same problem but worse! They would actually "mark their territory" all over our counters! So we got this thing called "Sssscat" .... it sets on your counter and when the cat jumps up it makes a beeping noise to warn the cat then a loud hissing noise and slightly sprays the cat with air.... cats hate it! After time you can set it to just the beeping noise and the cats will get the idea that the counter is not for them. We ordered it online... I will update this answer when I find the link! Hope this helps!!!!

Double sided tape is a good idea.
Also, don't let him be in kitchen when you are not there. Then when he does it, you create a consequence--in addition to the tape.

One choice: spray him (if you use a little
oil of pepperment or clove in the
he'll hate it even more) as soon as
he jumps up.

second choice: fill a can with dried beans
or small stones and put a cover on
it. As soon as you see him jump,
shake the can near him.

Do either one of the cosequenses each time, and he'll very soon associate jumping on the counter as an unpleasant experience, and will not want to do it.

Tht tape and squirt bottle are good ideas. You may try a spray-on cat repellent. It's in a spray can like hairspray or deodorant. It has a smell that some cats really don't like. But some people can smell the stuff too, and it's an unpleasant smell for them. Smell it inside the store before you decide to bring it into your kitchen.

Spray bottle with water is the best! But you can buy handy devices that keep cats off the counters and such! look at PetEdge. Also, buy a kitty tree so your cat will have something to climb on and won't get in trouble. I have a designated book shelf and a cat tree that my cat is allowed on and now they don't seem interested in the other places that they are not allowed!

Ive used double sided tape to keep mine from scratching the furniture and from climbing to some extent, and Ive sprinkled cayanne pepper on spots in the carpet where he's been scratching, but its very hard to keep them from climbing on things entirely. Get one of those 'kittly condos' made from carpet and wood, so that your cat has his own place where he can climb and sit up high..and rub a little cat nip into it so that it ups the appeal. Otherwise...invest in lots of those Clorox wipes!! Im constantly wiping things down, just to be sure!

Its natural for cats to find the high ground. You may have to make him an outdoor cat. I have heard of people using squirt bottle of water and squirting the cat everytime they jump up on things.

I would suggest using a squirt bottle. & everytime they're someplace they're not supposed to be squirt them. They will learn pretty fast. I had a kitten with the same problem, only she climbed on the bird cage. Cats don't like water so they will learn to run if they see it coming too.

The Cat's world is a vertical world where our is horizontal. You should get your cat one of those tree things for him to climb. If it is really high, he will leave the other things alone. works for my cat!

I spray my 3 cats with a water bottle when they are somewhere they are not supposed to be. My vet said it was fine to do that and it wasn't harmful to them.
