The New Testament is a book compiled from 34 gospels which were all written by men as historical accounts of the life of Jesus. They are not revelation and the Absolute word of God.

Highly intelligent scholars admit their uncertainties concerning whether certain letters labeled "Paul, Peter and Jude" are authentic; and uncertain about who wrote the Gospels, and how they are related (i.e., literary redaction hypotheses); and also uncertain about what the historical Jesus, said, did, or believed about himself and his mission?

Even James D. G. Dunn and N. T. Wright admit various uncertainties.

Wow, what is wrong with that first girl?

See there's the difference, atheists believe evolution is true, but recognize there's parts of the theory that may be wrong, or parts that are not in full consistency with the rest. That's okay it doesn't make the underlying truths any less true.

I am amazed that people are afraid to question their beliefs, especially when their beliefs are based on an old book, feelings and faith.

With all due respect, you seem to wish FIRST to discredit the Bible, and then go find reasons.
Your presentation is full of holes.
There has never been 34 gospels ...only 4, then a number of letters, written to the congregations.
Revelation is a vision.
They total 27 contributions.
Someone who uses an expression like "highly intelligent scholars admit....." is trying to persuade by intimidation.
Because those 'scholars' have their doubts, therefore I'm suppose to doubt as well?
I think not.
Why do you readily gobble up what THEY say, and quickly dismiss what Paul and Peter said?

Because the Bible does not stand alone, it is backed up with historical evidence.
Because it is inspired of God. Those men who wrote it were under the annointing of the Holy Spirit, and I believe the Bible I hold in my hands today is written exactly as God intended it to be.
Because man will be judged according to this Bible, and God is just. He was and is able to see to it that the Bible is absolutely accurate and contains only His truth.
And because the most intelligent scholars who have ever lived can not compare to the intelligence and wisdom of God. They are capable of being wrong, God is not.

The Bible did no longer exist whilst Jesus became around. you do no longer make any sense! maximum Christians understand that the Bible isn't a single seamless checklist, yet instead an assembly of hundreds of components. a number of those are extra beneficial questionable than others, however the sensible observer immediately concludes that the Bible has infinite issues. So, no, we don't assume of the Bible as fairly user-friendly, and no, we don't regard it as absolute actuality. Christians are persons who've chosen to conform with the path illumined by Jesus. subsequently they're suggested as Christians. Your emotions approximately this do no longer likely have any impression on the definition. you're able to do no longer overlook the sensible human beings as now no longer fairly Christians. i do no longer assume you qualify as Christian because you so actual do no longer stick to the classes of Jesus. the classes of Jesus won't be fairly what Jesus is meant to have suggested, however the existence he lived -- the way he interacted with females and adult males. your self-righteous post of course shows which you does no longer completely draw close the genuine teachings of Jesus in the event that they hit you interior the face. i'm sorry if I sound a splash indignant, yet i'm so very ill of listening to the nonsense out of your style, who do no longer likely desire to computer screen of what the Bible fairly calls us to do, and you pass and discover fault with others. Straighten out your very own existence and particularly study what Jesus ' existence on earth means till now than you presume to criticize others.

As a mainline Christian (not a righ-wing ignorant fundamentalist).. I ask the same question. Who the hell knows what is the ABSOLUTE word of God.

Fundamentalist, Jerry Falwell, Ted Haggard right-wing redneck Christians are making a positive "truth claim" that is offensive, disrespectful and truly ignorant.

BTW ... not all of the 34 writings found in the NT are "gospels" ... There are only 4 Gospels ... Mark, Matthew & Luke, and John.

You are right there is uncertainty .. but if we as mainline Christians can point to one firm "truth" it is the Sermon on the Mount.

It doesn't matter what "highly intelligent scholars" of today think. Scholars of today can't even agree about the meaning of a single passage. What matters is that the group of men who compiled the Canon of Scripture and decided once and for all time which 73 texts comprise the Holy Bible - the bishops of the Holy Catholic Church - were guided by the Holy Spirit in their discernment. It doesn't matter whether certain texts were actually written by the authors whose names they bear. The texts were not chosen because of their human authors. They were chosen because God wanted them chosen. Period.

Because I have strong faith in God, I believe that He would not allow anything into the Bible that is untrue. The Bible is the only source of spiritual wisdom (aside from the Holy Spirit) that God left us. So I believe that He would protect it from any untruth.

I think the question is more:

How can sincere lovers of G-d accept any part of the bible as being the absolute Word of G-d?

Let's face it, G-d didn't sit down and write the Bible, or the Torah, or what have you, and then hand it to somebody. As long as man has had a part in writing, translating, editing, or publishing the Bible, there is the possibility (the probability, really) of inaccuracies.

It is not the Word itself which brings us our beliefs, but our faith in the belief that G-d has spoken to us through His Word that gives us the faith enough to follow the Bible in the first place.

I think you answered your own question

Absolute would mean that the author wrote the material, not anyone else.

Define "sincere lovers of God" - it leaves too much room for interpretation and judgment.

I do not like to pass any judgment on anyone, nor like to offend anyone.
