Any name can be a great one! Choose something you like that has a positive connotation (the names I'm not keen on are ones like "Trouble" which tend to be a self-fulfilling).
If the dog already has a name but it is not one that you like, go ahead and change it! Since all of mine are second-hand dogs, I do it all the time. I try to choose a new name that has a similar sound to it (beginning sound, vowel sound, same syllable count, etc). Even if you choose a name that is Completely Different, you can make it work.
With any name, you want to teach your dog that this special word basically means, "Hey you!" Teach your dog this name by saying it, then giving a treat. Repeat the pairing of name, treat, name, treat, again and again. Your dog will learn that his name is a Good Thing as in, "My name gets me treats so I better pay attention and come running whenever I hear it!"
Try to avoid using the dog's name when you are irritated. (And, by the way, my dogs don't even know the meaning of the word "No." I can get them to stop anything just by saying each name.) I try to always follow the name with a positive word and a treat or a game.
Good luck and always have fun!

The best dog names describes the dog's behavior or appearance. For example if your dog has a lot of spots you could call him Spot. Or if your dog likes eating bones you could call him Bonehead or something like that. Just think about your dog or cat and how it acts or looks. You'll get an idea for your dog's name:^).
