How can you tell the difference between power and telephone lines when they're connected to a house?

Power lines will typically go to a meter outside the house. Phone lines will typically go to a greyish box. Follow the wires that come down.

Power lines are much larger than telephone lines. Power lines - 14 - 10 AWG (or possibly larger). Telephone lines 20 - 22 AWG.
