I am so bored and fed up at work at the moment everything is p*ing me off. As a result I just end up eating anything I fancy and then feel even more fed up for eating rubbish. (I'm trying to lose weight too, and failing) I know its a vicious circle but i was just wondering if anyone who has had something similar to deal can offer advice on how can i stop eating unnecessarily?

It is tough when you have learned to use food to satisfy non-food related needs. You have learned to use food to deal with boredom and anger. Now it has become bad habit. It is true that we don't just "break" a bad habit. Usually we learn (re-learn) to replace one habit with another. Hopefully we learn to replace a bad habit with a good one, or at least one that is less bad! Is is possible to take a little walk outside? How about some quiet meditative time? Can you take a break and talk to someone who's company you enjoy? Do not just try to power your way through the food craving; it has become an ingrained autonomic response. You can commit to actively replacing it and relearn the response.

Drink lots of water. When you get overwhelmed and feel the need to eat, make a decision to do something else. If you need to go outside for a 2 min walk, I am sure the boss will understand. Go to the bathroom and sit just take a breather. I do it all the time, it's cool and quiet in there.

I have dealt with this, as I think most of us have to one extreme or another. I found I would go for the high sugar, high calorie foods, chocolate, cookies, etc. and I would way over eat and then feel horrible. I stopped making dessert at home, and I stopped buying it from the store, that way I didn't have easy access to it. When I would start to get upset, I would pray, and that would help. If you feel you need to do something physical, go for a walk, do a work out, or even go swimming. One other thing you can try is to write your frustrations down. I have gotten in arguments with my husband that have left me very upset. Afterwords I would go to the bedroom, shut the door and write everything down. I felt relieved to have everything written down and out of my system so that I wasn't venting on the inside. I hope this helps

I know what foods trigger me to overeat, and I do not keep them around me at all. If I have a major craving for ice cream (a triggering food for me) I go to an ice cream shop and buy a small sized treat. I enjoy it more, and it prevents me from overeating. I've noticed that I don't get hungry between meals if the opportunity to eat isn't there (no food available).

Try fasting as long as you can.
