If you want a sweetness that will infuse nice into just about anything (especially pork & chicken) is pineapple juice; and, if you want the marinade to work as a glaze or a baste, add some honey to it as well.

If it's Asian, pineapple juice should sweeten it up or there should be some ingredent in it all ready to make it sweet, just add more of that.
If it's BBQ related use molasses, sugar, honey or (if you are brave) use maple syrup.

- Brown sugar (it does not kill the spices)
- Cinnamon (its already sweet and spicy)
- Apple juice (it adds a nice kick to the taste and after the dish is done it has a very nice smell that goes amazing with red wine)
- Chili paste mixed with tomato puree
- Orange zest (small pieces of the orange peel, only the orange stuff, not the white)
- milk (i dunno why it adds the sweet)

Honey, but be careful how much you use as it is easy to go too far..
Whenever I add something, I taste it afterwards, to be sure I get what I want.
