Im 23, and my boss tells me Im a 'good girl', it makes me sick, I am not a dog! Sometimes he says it out of nowhere or if he wants me to hand him something..Don't you think people should quit saying that to you after your 5th birthday?

Yeah, technically they should.

Funny that men don't get this, but they're the first ones who'd be insulted if we called them boys.

But you should try to see that he's not doing it to be hurtful. He probably thinks that calling you a girl is complimentary, as it implies that you're not old. He has good intentions, and I try to focus on these when faced with a situation like this.

It's just his style of speech, I doubt he intends to demean you. I had a boss, an elderly woman, who always said I was a "good kid". Being in my twenties, I wasn't happy to be a "kid", but I realized that to her, I did seem like a kid, as did anyone under 35.

Try teasing your boss back to let him know you don't like this nickname, without being rude about it. Give a playful pout, stamp your foot, and say "I'm not a *girl*!" By playfully *acting* like a little girl, you'll draw his attention to his wording. Try offering a better phrase that you'd like to hear - "Just tell me I'm fabulous!" or whatever.

The next time he says that, say" If that is true, how about a raise"..One of two things will happen, either he will stop, or you will get a raise. Sounds like a win win situation to me.

Wait till he does something for you and tell him "Good boy". Or answer back, can I "fetch" you anything else. (Emphasizing the word, he might get the picture) It is very dated and he should know better, but many people get stuck in a rut of using old phraseology.
