They use Y!A because translation engines are notoriously bad at translating. Simple phrases are usually OK, but anything slightly complex is virtually impossible to translate using a translation engine.
If you are not convinced, try using one from English to Japanese, then copy the translation and put it in the "translate" box and ask the engine to go from Japanese to English - you'll be surprised/amused by the result.

Well, like some of the other answerers have said, some translation engines are not correct, or cannot properly translate native idioms, etc. Not to mention the fact that maybe the language needing translating is in a non-Roman alphabet, like Greek, Russian, Arabic, which can pose a problem sometimes.

Not only are translation engines often inaccurate, they don't supply the person-to-person contact that helps someone learn the language rather than relying on translations.
But since it makes you sick, perhaps you should stick to the translation engines and the rest of us will get to know each other.

Because translation engines don't work.
Some of us don't mind translating a few phrases, but we do mind when some participants want homework translated in their entirety.
That's what I call taking advantage of the situation.

Because the translation engines don't work well, and they can't translate somethings, (idiomatic expressions for example)

Yeah first of all this it's better, this it's more accurate and you have the chance to ask somebody to interpret and not just translate something. like quotes or sayings.
