Where i live we have a local association that is all of the area churches belong to (except the baptist churches- and I will explain that later.)
The association is called MICA. They operate a food pantry, a prescription pantry where once every three months if you meet the qualifications you can bring in your rx from the doctor and get it filled for free, a children's and women's shelter, and a burned out shelter. We live in a rural community so if there is a house fire, then the house is usually a total loss. The burned out shelter will provide the family with the basics to get them started in a new home, towels, sheets, clothes, whatever they may need - this comes in very helpful esepecially if the family didn't have insurance on the home.
Now I mentioned that all the area churches belong to MICA except the baptists. I am not badmouthing the baptists. They don't belong because they have their own food pantry doing their own thing.
I volunteer food and money to MICA twice a year.

We have a food pantry in our town, that is run by volunteers mostly from our area churches. But the local businesses also contribute and have food drives. These same people also make sure to help with other needs as well, such as providing clothing, paying for utilities and getting medical services when needed. If someone needs a home, that too is taken care of in various ways, though that isn't a big problem here.

In the States, churches - I'm from a small town with very few people who need that kind of assistance though.
In Morocco, unfortunately no one takes care of them. Despite it being a Muslim country, Moroccans where I live tend to simply pass by beggars, or occasionally give them some change (which they may or may not spend on food). I carry yogurt with me and hand them out whenever I see someone begging - I know it's not the solution, but there's no organized association that handles stuff like that here.

Huckabee often times tries to sound like he cares, i'm no longer too particular any of his proposals agree along with his rhetoric. yet i assume the main suitable thank you to verify could be to seem into his checklist as former Governor of Arkansas (that's what he replaced into, actual? i'm unsure). the respond's straight forward. The Republican occasion has embraced Christianity because of the fact they comprehend that advertising their piety will win them greater Christian votes -- and in a rustic ruled with the aid of Christians... They ruin out with being un-Jesus-like for 2 motives: many Christians care greater approximately yelling how Christian they are than they care approximately behaving like Christians, and the Republican occasion appeals to their selfishness, greed, and self-righteousness. they have confident people who the only reason there are poor human beings is via the fact the poor each and every physique is susceptible and have the incorrect values. in the event that all of them embraced capitalist ideals and Christian values they does no longer have become poor in the 1st place. this is how the change replaced into made. The Republicans have been merely doing what people who want to be in means do, lie and manage. The blame for the certainty that it works belongs entirely to the Christians who bought it.

Well, to tell the truth, there aren't very many poor people in our town. It's too small of a town for that.
However, we do have something like six churches off post, and one on post (I live on a military base in Germany), and we ALL do our part to take care of each other, and to take care of others. This is a very generous community.
And yes, I do take part whenever and however I can. I'm not going into detail, because I'd rather not make it seem as though I'm boasting.

Who feeds the hungry? Taxpayers! Whether they are christians or not.
Charity is not an exclusive christian trait. It is a human trait!
In the past, when humans were hunter/gatherers, safety was congruent with numbers. The more people in a group, the better protection for everyone. So, they shared food and clothing to keep people from starving or freezing to death and lowering the numbers.
Love, forgiveness, altruism, and other moral traits were honed in this stage of human social developement.
More than 12 million children starve to death in Africa and India every year! The count gets higher and higher every year.
If God exists, what is he waiting for?

When I was around 16, I used to buy pizza and give them the left over slices that I didn't want. They always used to appreciate it when I did that.
Recently I helped out some friends and bought some food for them. (Because they were having some financial issues during the winter.) I felt good buying them food but, they didn't appreciate it as much as the homeless people did. I think that I might have hurt their ego?? Not sure. Can only do the best I can.

Our church has an outreach program to help the homeless and the underprivileged children of the community (as do many of the churches in our town.) Some members donate time; others donate finances or much needed items like blankets, clothes, toiletries, etc. Donations are made to our overseas missionaries and the people they are reaching as well.
dannamanna99 - the gift card idea is WONDERFUL! My husband and I have actually bought meals for homeless people we've come across, but it has never occurred to either of us to buy the gift cards and hand those out! Thank you!

Two years ago, the city paired with the Catholic Archdiocese, prominent Evangelical Congregation, and Jewish providers. Together, they have been working on homelessness and feeding the poor. They have been asking us NOT to give the beggars change so the beggars will then use the services provided in hopes to give them real help.
Yes, I participate in the assembly line to make sandwiches.
