No sorry. It has to be a tux. You are a member of the wedding party if you are walking her down the aisle. If not, you can dress as a guest.
They are in tuxes, she is formal gown--this is a formal event. Regardless of located in Deadwood SD (a place I have actually been believe it or not. is she doing the western theme?) or NYC.
If the bride is ok with it, you might could get away with a black suit. A nice formal looking, black suit. But a sports coat and slacks?? No way! The pictures are going to have you next to the bride. You up front at the alter giving her away, right next to the bridal party. A sports coat would only be ok if it was a casual wedding--bride in a destination wedding gown and groomsmen in linens and looking cuban.

The Bride's Father SHOULD wear the same attire as the Groom and the Groomsmen. The second choice is "a dark suit" . . black or dark brown or navy blue. The Bride's Father really should wear a TUXEDO. Your photographs will be nicer when they are all dressed the same!

Either one. If he has a nice suit he can wear than that's fine. But when I got married my dad rented a tux along with my guys so he matched because we had brown pin stripped tuxes. I think most tux shops give you the grooms free and like a discount on the father of the brides. At least that's what our place did. Congrats on the wedding :-) Good Luck!

I agree with Phantom. If the bride is in a wedding gown and her father is walking her down the aisle he must be in a tux.

A classic black suit. That's the least formal, he would look out of place next to the tuxes in pictures, if he wore anything else.

The father-of-the-bride in this case should wear a suit and tie. He should dress to match his wife, not the bridal party.
