the Holy Spirit, isn't voiced more from the pulpit? Do you think it is because there is more of an acceptance of sin within Churches? They don't want people to be consience of the consequences of sin?

actually, i've heard some sermons on this...one recently though i can't recall where. The preacher pointed out that if they had told the apostles "hey, i sold my property and kept some of the money and here's the rest" then they would not have been struck down. It was the desire to appeart more generous than they were that got em into trouble.

It could be that everyone knows the story isn't true. No one *really* strikes you dead for lying to a religious authority.

People lie to religious leaders all the time, partly because those leaders tend to be nosy. For instance, how many Catholics undergoing premarital counseling (to be married in the church) are honest when the priest asks them if they've been sleeping together?

Acts 5:4-6 (King James Version)
4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Moral of the story: don't lie to the Holy Spirit or God.

I am certain that there is more sin in the churches. People have become more relaxed in their worship and serving God. We all need to repent and come back to God.

Maybe there are just far too many sins and bible passages to interpret meaning into that they just don't get to it all that often.
