I have a mommy friend who "knows it all" and is always recommending foods for me to feed my 16 month old daughter. They are often convenience foods that are filled with saturated and trans fats, and here on Yahoo, I have often seen people recommend mac and cheese as a toddler food. So are there any parents out there who think about the fats you're feeding your children, and do you choose other options?

oh yes i do!

i do NOT buy crap food with trans fats, msg, high fructrose corn syrups, refined flours and sugars and such

we are also vegetarian.....my daughter and i get the best possible....most of the time

and no our diets are not boring and strict.....my daughter and i have a blast making our popsicles from fresh strawberries, banasas, pinapple, raw sugar.....just for example

we make yummy veggie tacos, make our own bread among tons of other healthy food ideas

i amazes me what parents allow their kids to eat....i just cannot understand how parents don't educate themselves more on the CRAP that is in our american food system!

Of course - but it's not just trans fats that can be a problem. Anything in excess is an issue.

Marketing is powerful, however. It's hard for many parents to differentiate between what the advertisers say about their products, and the labels on the box. Especially when you're dealing with trusted companies, and you're dog-tired from chasing a toddler around, lol.

Reading food labels is depressing to me! I always just tried to find stuff on the outer edges of the grocery store that she could eat, so I wouldn't have to worry as much.

so false ! I've grew up in a poor foster care house and I was always under wight and i'm 28 have two boys and still poor and still wear a size 0-00 ,I keep trying to get any one to hire me so I can put more food on the table and buy some cloths that don't have holes in them I don't own a car I walk to buy my family food and water . my sons are not fat and we are still poor and we live in in cali in a major city where the cheapest deal on fruit is 1.99 per pound . so a Truly poor person is skinny not fat and its not the lack of a lot of money diet that makes you fat its either genetics or poor decision making .

I'm sure that the items you mentioned are ok, in moderation. That's what it seems some parents are not thinking of. They only think of convenience, and making their child happy. We took a different approach when our daughters were little. We went with healthy snacks.

Our oldest came to me one day in the morning (only half-day kindergarten), and said that she was hungry. I told her that if she wanted something, it was going to have to be healthy. And it's been like that since. Halloween candy, Christmas candy, etc. sits around at our house because our girls do not eat it. They would much rather have fruit as a snack, yogurt, string cheese, sherbert, etc.

I think that if you explore your options, you will see that there are plenty of better things out there that kids can be eating.

Completely, especially with sugar and high fructose corn syrup too, and that some yogurt is basically junk food. Plus all the processed stuff you mention.

I think about it and try not to panic. A little in moderation is probably okay but I try to make sure it isn't the mainstay of the child's diet.
