I ruined my credit years ago and my fiance has perfect credit, we are planning to get married soon and I dont know if my credit history will affect him and I also need to know if I file Bankruptcy after we are married will it affect him in anyway. I have no other option but bankruptcy, I already looked into all other options, I need to know the legal aspects of debt and marriage, plus if I file bankruptcy will we ever be able to buy a house, even if he is the only one on the loan or do I have to be put on there cause I will be his spouse?

This really depends on state law. Please talk it over with a bankruptcy attorney before getting married and filing. Most states do not mingle your credit with his....but then you have community property states like California and Texas that have quite different rules.

A bankruptcy stays on your credit for ten years, but after two years from discharge you can still buy a house.

He can buy a house on his own, but both married parties must sign documents when selling (dower rights).

In the future, try to save, get insurance and use credit wisely.
I wish you the best for your future! Good luck!

Hi,

Have seen lots of people asking info on bad credits. Well, if you need to get your problem solved onarrange loans or other finance, and usually means you will pay more interest on any loan you take out.

I would do the bankruptcy before you get married, personally. Because anything you apply for together (cars, house, etc) your bad credit will show up...
