science v's intuitive beliefs.... If science has proven how a specific theory or event occured... why then do some people challenge this by choosing to believe in a religious belief which goes against scientific evidence?

Science does not offer them an eternal holy resting place. Sceince does not comfort them or make them feel better about themselves when they come up against the bad people.
Science only offers what can be seen and proven

Religion offers a life after this one. In a place that is magical with little springs and fairies and the animals are friends and everyone sits around smoking weed and singing songs of praise. They are forever happy and joyful and full of the love of the lord forever and ever and ever.....

I told someone recently that if they were right and there was a hell this is the place I want to be. I have seen these boring christians and other religion no dancing , no singing, no fun at and if this is heaven. I would rather go to where all of the dope smoking, partying, having lots and lots of sex is going to be at instead of at the boring old heaven..
But since neither palce are real it does not matter anyway. I am going to the same palce as the believer and that is in a coffin 6 ft under the dirt. The end.

In turn, I would ask this: Why is scientific evidence superior to intuitive beliefs, and why is it mutually exclusive?

If science has -proven- a theory - and there have been a few - most tend to accept it. However, science has, I believe, yet to truly prove anything that utterly contradicts most people's religions. Most specifically (as seems to come up most often), the theory of evolution and the Big Bang have -not- been fully proven, but remain theories - just as, in turn, Christianity's claims and those of other religions have not been fully proven, but remain theories. Both sides have evidence to their credit; however, most of the time, Christians and other theists are disinclined to value empirical evidence over the personal connection they feel with their deity, and in turn, scientists and atheists are disinclined to value personal or experiential evidence over that which they feel they can empirically prove.

Okay, I'm going to be geeky here ... but on the TV show, "Star Trek, the Next Generation" ... Captain Picard went to a planet that was just entering space. He contacted the government, and some were happy to see aliens ... while another was about to commit suicide. The parable told in this episode is that although some are ready, to be considerate of all, you need to have unified acceptace. It ended with Jean Luc leaving without a trace of alien existance to comfort the percentage of the population that was scared of him & the crew of the Enterprise.

(Dear Me ... I need to get a life & stop watching re-runs ... blush)

Some people just need something to believe in. If they don't understand science, then sometimes religion is easier. Besides, if you are brain-washed into a religion as a child it's really hard to break away from those beliefs as you grow up.

People tend to reject anything that can shatter their core beliefs. Its only natural. One think I have noticed is people who don't "trust" science seem to be uneasy with the idea that the rules could change later on. Think about it most people who "follow" for lack of a better term science are more than willing to accept changes to old theories and even new ones. It is something that come with the territory and a lot of people are uncomfortable with that kind of change.

If you are a person of faith/intuitive beliefs . . .you see no great divide between FAITH AND REASON.

If you are a fundamentalist of any faith or belief system . . . then you prefer to stick in ignorance. What is particularly apalling are a few ignorant Christofacists assuming all of us who are Christian have checked our brains at the door. For me the good Lord gave us the memory, reason and skill to uncover more and more of Him through the sciences. To refuse that gift as fundamentalists do is the height of human arrogance and human "sin".

Christians do not resist PROVEN science. Remember, it was only a short time ago that scientists insisted the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth. Those scientists were very firm in their "theories" but were eventually proven wrong.

There is just as much evidence for creation as there is for evolution. Christians choose creation over evolution by faith. You choose evolution over creation by belief and theory.

I haven't checked my brain at the door, and I believe science is just revealing more of the awesome Truth of the Creator. What science cannot do is contradict the pre-existence of God....
I am a Christian AND I read, absorb and accept new scientific discoveries.

Don't forget , a lot of the intelligent design arguments are put out by scientists. As a group, they are very self-serving and egomaniacal. One persons scientific evidence goes against anothers scientific evidence. Everything should be challenged.

i'm an atheist simply by fact i do no longer have faith in gods. i do no longer have faith in gods simply by fact there's no longer a shred of info to help his life. If he's as all latest and all effective as you adult males say he's, does no longer he have left something someplace to verify his life? it incredibly is not a threat to coach something does not exist, yet we can be conscious info that are suggestive. as an occasion, if one set of persons replaced into praying to a actual god who ought to respond to their prayers and instruction manual/help them of their struggles with the aid of life, we would anticipate them to benefit an income over different people who have been praying to non-existent gods or no gods in any respect. So we would anticipate to make sure the only real faith displacing each and all the fake ones. What we certainly see is a load of jointly contradictory religions vying against one yet another - which shows to me that none of them is real.
