Like the commercial says, there is no such thing as a free puppy.

Responsible dog owners whose dogs have puppies should have them examined by a vet, dewormed twice and have their first puppy shots before they are old enough to leave the mother, so it's hard to see how they could give away free puppies after those expenses. And if the puppy has not had those dewormings and shots, it has not been well cared for. It is likely to get sick about the time you get it home.

If you want a free puppy because you can't afford to buy one, please rethink the entire idea of having a dog. There is no such thing as a free dog, either. Besides the food, which is no minor expense, it will need yearly vaccinations, a dog license, leash, collar, bedding, dishes, a place to sleep, toys, and other things. It will need to be neutered or spayed when it is a few months old. If it gets sick or hurt the vet expenses can be hundreds of dollars. It is a living thing that deserves good care and can give 15 years or so.
