Absolutely phenomenal question. I think it would be worse to know exactly what you want and not be able to have it. Wants / needs change over time. I actually find it limiting to think people know exactly what they want.
And don't people figure out what they want somewhat through experiences of what they don't want?
It's better to live with openness to more questions (not knowing what you want) than seeking one answer answer / solution. Again, I think that's limiting human potential.

I think that knowing what you want and not being able to get it is the worse thing in the world. I am kind of going thru this now. If you wanted soemthing real, to the point where it is something that you wanted since you were little and had a taste of it, but could'nt get the rest, and then you died tommorrow, would'nt you feel empty inside. It has always been hard for me to accept failure. At least if you have never had it, then you would not know what you are missing, even though that sucks to sometimes

Good question!! I would have to say it would be worse knowing exactly wha tI want but not being able to have it. I would rather spend time thinking about what I truly want then spend it wasted over the fact that I could never have it.

Best Question from Pinky (and new too)
I'm Both now
But the second is worse which is know exactly what you want but there are many problems prevent you from having it, its like for example that there is a very nice sweet girl that you like in front of you and you can't tell her you love her. (strange example :)
I think i'm more the 2ND one, wish i can get rid of the problems and of my fears.
I wish you all the best

Both cases are bad. And both can be worse depending upon situation to situation.
Overall, one would feel worse when one knows what one wants but is not able to get it. Its like, you know what you are not getting. You can see, feel your loss.
If you don't know what you want, then there is no sense of loss, even though you are loser as a whole.
It is better to know what you want and get it, but if you can not get it, then it is better not to know.

Once you know what you want, you can always take steps to achieve your goals. People without a purpose or a goal drift aimlessly.
