Just married, I haven't changed my last name yet. I have 3 boys. The youngest 2 are biologically my husband's and have his last name. The oldest has my current (maiden)name. I'm thinking of hyphenating my last name with husband's...reason so oldest child won't ever feel left out not having the same last name as everyone else. I'm not sure if I'm making a big deal out of this. He's 7 and he has told me that he doesn't mind if I just take my husband's last name and he would have the only different last name in the house.

I don't think it matters.

I would have you and your eldest hyphenate your maiden with your husband's last, that is, if your current husband has adopted your eldest son. That way everyone has your husband's last name included in theirs, and your son's birth is recognized as well.

Change it to something you like, when my mom got married she didn't change her last name cuz that's what women do in my culture (and she's the only one in my family with that last name, my bro and I took Dad's last name.)She seems ok with it and it's just a last name so no big deal.
