i don't know. How do you prove an emotion. once someone told me they loved me and even gave me a ring.
but that didn't stop them from screwing around on me....
so no I don't think you can prove love.
but I may still be holding a grudge so I MIGHT be the wrong person to ask about love......

Not scientifically, or logically, but with a personal experiment you can try.
It is very dangerous.
Pick someone who IS accessible, and that you DO want to spend the rest of your life with, and would do the same with you (be CAREFUL!)
1) deliberately share everything you can with them, hiding nothing;
2) listen without judgement to everything they say and share with you;
3) find private things in your life - make them public to them;
4) everywhere you resist being more open? mention it to them and immediately open them up to demonstrate that you don't want to resist;
5) don't discuss this person with others except with them present - no more gossip with friends about them;
6) if you've talked about them in the past about things you haven't shared with them personally, share them now, even if embarrassing;
7) get to know his family and let him get to know yours;
8) don't share gossip with him or sit in judgment of others, even if he/she tries to, instead help them to understand why they do what they do
Love is our natural state. It's the things we put in the way that make us think it is rare.
Chasing after love is like trying to bite your own tail. It's right there, already part of you. Let it be and do it's job. Stop trying to bury it.
Same with happiness, by the way.

Well, for one thing each human being experiences love and would gladly verify it for you.
Most human beings do not experience Jesus or the Christian god, and gladly say so.

Actually...they can.
Technically its a chemical reaction in the brain and hormones.
But they haven't proved loyalty and devotion yet. So there is your silver lining. :)
