The Geeta the Hindu spiritual book. It is the ultimate reality and the gist is as under.
We are the soul not the body, the body dies but the soul lives on.
We should not live to satiate our 5 senses but should conquer them by doing Yoga.
We should not think about the outcome, but just do our duty, regardless.
We should be moderate in our behavior, eat work sleep play etc moderately.
We should practice Yoga to become one with God. (Not just the Physical Yoga, but the mental Yoga too - meaning meditation).
Our body is a temple for the soul, so we should not pollute it.
All our actions (Karma) in this life should be a tribute to God, hence we will be free from it's reactions.

Almost anything by CS Lewis but be warned, he was an intellectual so some of his comments take a little effort. Start with Mere Christianity
The Purpose Driven Life
Having A Mary Heart in a Martha World (this is not just a book about the sisters who entertained Jesus and his followers for dinner!)
A little book called, My Heart Christ's Home

Well are you looking for books on missionaries? I know many biography's by great missionary who served God well. Are you looking for commentaries that help you understand scriptures? If you are here are some names. Warren Wiersbe, John Phillips, J. Vernon McGee. These men have wrriten some great commentaries, but with any books like that you have to remember its their view of the scriptures. A Strong's Concordance is a great thing to have as well. If you want to know the names of those biography's just e-mail me and will be glad to help.

Actually I think it is possible to learn spiritual 'truths' from almost anywhere.
Consequently I have found both Walden or, Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau and Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome greatly inspiring.
As Wally Amos said "Life is just a mirror, and what you see out there, you must first see inside of you".
Just a thought.

Before I recommend a book, let me tell you about Spiritism, my religion.
"Spiritism is a religious, philosophic, and scientific doctrine that teaches us about our true, eternal lives as spirits created by God, including: our origin and the process of reincarnation by which we will one day reach our spiritual destiny; our relationship and means of communication with God and the discarnate beings of the Spirit Realm; the moral and physical laws that govern all life in our universe- in both the physical (material) and spiritual planes; and our salvation found in the teachings of our supreme teacher and model of moral perfection, Jesus Christ."
Allan Kardec is a french doctor who had a lot of experience with the spiritual world and based on those experiences he wrote several books that are the basis of Spiritism.
One of his books: "The Spirits' Book", which is question-and-answer type of book, is the best one to understand the doctrine.
"A Spiritual Home": author Francisco C. Xavier, by the inspiration of the spirit of Andre Luiz.
There are several books written by spirits. You can check the website www.spiritistdoctrine.com for further information about the religion and other books.
Peace!
