Most cameras will show up as a removable mass storage device. It should map as another drive letter when connected (assuming Microsoft Windows for your operating system). Just use their USB cable and the OS should recognize the device. Open up Windows Explorer and locate the drive mapped to the device. Look through the directory structure (each vendor is a little difference) and locate the picture files. You can then copy these to a directory on your hard drive.

I agree with fhotoace. Just get a card reader. You can buy various kinds of card readers to accomodate many different memory cards pretty much anywhere that they sell digital cameras. Even WalMart has decent card readers by the major manufacturers.

No u do not need the software
Just connect the camera to the PC, wait till the storage device icon appears in MY computer. open it and copy the pictures u want to ur PC

For the most part, yes.
There is an easy way though. When you return the camera, transfer the pics to their computer, then email the ones you want to yourself. Viola! Unless you have been naughty, and taken some inappropriate shots of your friends.......
