If there is a God woudn't we expect that we woudn't understand Him? I mean, if He's GOD, then He's by definition greater and higher than us. Yet, it seems a lot of people dismiss the possibility of His existence because it doesn't make sense to them. Why is that?

Dismissing the possibility from one's own belief system is quite reasonable. Without proof, there is no reason to expect others to believe (though, of course, some choose to or have personal experiences that cause them to believe, or even know the truth).
Dismissing that God exists and insisting that others have to is anti-American and about as far from science as you can get.
Science does not dismiss the possibility of God. It is a non-issue because it is something that cannot be tested, like invisible pink unicorns existing somewhere in the universe.
To believe that God does NOT exist is a belief, a religious belief, and common to many who call themselves "Atheist".
These are the one's desperate to convince others NOT to believe in God. Belief in God is a constant challenge to their own beliefs.
However, another group of Atheists exist who do not believe that God does not exist, and don't wonder whether he does or not (such as Agnostics), but simply dismiss the idea as they would someone who walked up and claimed they were possessed by aliens. "Prove it, or stop wasting my time," they would say. A VERY reasonable attitude.
These Atheists may argue religious points, discuss them, but they don't feel the need to insult religious people, or tear down their beliefs (they are often strong patriots who support religious freedoms, even if they feel it is a somewhat silly idea to believe such things). You don't sense any of the desperation that you do in these other posts, like the posts of any religious fanatic trying to convert everyone else, or loudly applauding someone of similar views in order to somehow lend credence to their own views by proxy.

If there were an Invisible Pink Unicorn, wouldn't we expect that we wouldn't understand Her? I mean, if She's IPU, then She's be definition greater and higher than we are. Yet, it seems a lot of people dismiss the possibility of Her existence because pinkness and invisibility combined make for an incoherent idea. Why is that?

Im a science man. . . . . . . . .
I hope there is a god. . . . . .
The thought of dieing and never thinking or being again is a little freaky. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
But i dont think my thought capacity existed before i was born.
So i really dont know if it can exist after you die!
But im open to anything there are all sorts of magical things we cant explain.
Like how life came to exist from plain material and such
Whats important is to be a good person. Have insane amounts of fun. And sont kill anyone or make anyones life a misery!
If i never think again it wont actually matter to me will it. At least ill exist in the memories of those that knew me for a while! And pass on my dna.
And break hearts and love
God?! alot of ppls opinions of god come from the bible and the church! Another humans impession of what god is!!!!
Another persons idea of how to interpret the bible. Make up your own mind. Somehting paranormal exists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is for sure! The ability to think is paranormal. People just take it for granted

Absolutely!!! It was something more formal, yet I used to talk to Him whatever the reason and because I kept forward to my own ambition and desires, when He gave me avertisements I saved none and did my way going into more and more trubles! Into an end, within a deep depresion, He saved my life (!!!) the very second I left away of all my deep desires... There, empty heart, I was filled with God's Light and Peace and Love - a complete New LIFE, a new body, a New Vision over the past and the future :) :) :) Yes, He is my Saviour!!!

It's an interesting point, but the fact is there isn't a single compelling piece of evidence that points to the existence of any god, let alone the abrahamic deity.

this is a perfect example of something i asked a question about earlier: the difference between Atheism and Anti-theism. an atheist does not say there is no god. an atheist lacks belief, but realizes that there is no true way to know for sure. an anti-theist does not know, but believes that there is no god. the atheist simply lacks belief.

Most people dismiss the possibility of His existence, because if they choose to believe it then they are choosing to believe that yes they are sinners and yes they are going to hell if they don't repent. Most people have too much pride to admit that.

I guess its a matter of people having a hard time accepting something that they can't fit into and prove with human terms.
