To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

And the devil uses Scripture to deceive people. You see it here all the time.

I believe what our Creator tells us in his word the bible.

When we die, we are not conscious of anything at all. - Ecc 9:5,10;Ps 146:4.

We ARE souls. Therefore, when we die, there is no invisible part of the body that continues to live on. - Ezek 18:4.

If I die and am found faithful, I will be resurrected. - John 5:28,29;Acts 24:15.

A chosen group will be resurrected to heavenly life. - Rev 14:1;5:10.

Many, many others will be resurrected to earthly life. - Ps 37:11,29;Luke 23:43.

I am convinced that I will NOT go to heaven, but to earth.

And I would have to wait in death until that resurrection begins, which will be after God has removed this system of things and all it's wickedness. - Rev 16:14,16;Dan 2:44;Ps 37:9.

If not dying before that day, I, if faithful, along with a great crowd, will live right into the new system of things. - Rev 7:9,10,13,14.

Soul sleep is an interesting idea but hardly Biblical. Time ceases when we die and Paul tells us:
1 Corinthians 15:52 - In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

I believe when we die we go to the judgment which takes place at the end of time - so whether we die in 1066 1914 or 1945 or today it matters not. I don't know and I don;t really care as it makes no difference to the final destination.

Why are you following a pastor who does not know the scriptures? When we die we are asleep until the resurrection. Jesus comes to rule God's kingdom on Earth--not in heaven. Doesn't your pastor know this? Why is he pawning himself off as a pastor, when he does not know the word of God? Ridiculous!

Do We Remain Conscious after Death?
answered by Randy Alcorn

"The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it" (Ecclesiastes 12:7). At death, the human spirit goes either to Heaven or Hell. Christ depicted Lazarus and the rich man as conscious in Heaven and Hell immediately after they died (Luke 16:22-31). Jesus told the dying thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43). The apostle Paul said that to die was to be with Christ (Philippians 1:23), and to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). After their deaths, martyrs are pictured in Heaven, crying out to God to bring justice on Earth (Revelation 6:9-11).

These passages make it clear that there is no such thing as "soul sleep," or a long period of unconsciousness between life on Earth and life in Heaven. The phrase "fallen asleep" (in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 and similar passages) is a euphemism for death, describing the body's outward appearance. The spirit's departure from the body ends our existence on Earth. The physical part of us "sleeps" until the resurrection, while the spiritual part of us relocates to a conscious existence in Heaven (Daniel 12:2-3; 2 Corinthians 5:8). Some Old Testament passages (e.g., Ecclesiastes 9:5) address outward appearances and do not reflect the fullness of New Testament revelation concerning immediate relocation and consciousness after death.

Every reference in Revelation to human beings talking and worshiping in Heaven prior to the resurrection of the dead demonstrates that our spiritual beings are conscious, not sleeping, after death. (Nearly everyone who believes in soul sleep believes that souls are disembodied at death; it's not clear how disembodied beings could sleep, because sleeping involves a physical body.)

You need a handle on physics when you are talking about death and the afterlife. First, when you die, you pass from the boundaries of space-time into timelessness. When Adam died, he did not "sleep" as we understand sleep. The moment Adam died he entered timeless eternity. The next moment, the entire of earth's history has played out and the judgment has begun.
Sleep is sort of like that. When you sleep, time seems to pass by in a moment. Ever gone a night without sleep? It is like the night lasts forever. In the eternal, time has no hold and no limitation. As we live in these bodies, time drags on. But upon our death, click, the world's scenario has already played out. What happens after the judgment depends on what you decide in the here and now.

It is correct, that we are sleeping until we are called into Heaven. Then there will be judgement day, if we make it, we go to Heaven, or Hell depending upon how you lived your life. When all have risen up to heaven, the remainder of us will follow when it is our time.

I believe that our "bodies" are simply asleep until Jesus comes back. But our spirit goes on before us and is either in paradise or hell which ever direction we are going. I don't believe you are wrong I believe you do go directly to where your going it's just our bodies that are "asleep" until Jesus comes.

Your pastor is wrong. When you die nothing will happen. You will simply die. You as a conscious being will exist no longer. Your remains will hang around a bit longer however, decomposing and whatnot.
