1Cor.12: that the manifestation of the Spirit is given to everyone to profit/increase in their life. For to one is given the word of wisdom & another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit. To another faith by the same Spirt, to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerrning of spirits; to another different languages; to another interpreatation of this language. But all these working by the same Spirit of God... That the Spirit gives a measure to everyone of this gift or that... For the body is one ahd has many members and the members of one body being many are one body so also in Christ. For by one spirit we are all baptized into one body wherther Jews or Gentiles, or bond or free & have been all made to drink into one Spirit...
So, why do some people or Churches deny these gifts are meant to be in operation today?
Is it because some are rejecting God the Holy Spirit & therefore blaspeming?

creatrix, Those who are pretending to be filled with the Holy Spirit, you can discern because of the mocking tone in their voice. That doesn't sway me to criticize the real gifts, where people are true from their hearts. But I'm gifted to discern this easily.

You are probably right about God lauphing at the fakers. But God will not be mocked, we reap what we sow. But God isn't forgiving the fakers in the act of blasphemy either.

There's those who like to be in control, so they limit God/The Holy Spirit to what he can and can't do in their service.
And there are those who because they are young in the Lord, or don't have The Holy Spirit operating in their life to understand, so there's fear and apprehension due to lack of knowledge and understanding.
And there are those whom are just plain ignorant and don't believe - or even want to believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and they have closed their minds to Him. I have heard them say that it was only for the disciples etc, today it is done away with.
We Really need to Pray for a moving, a revival of The Holy Spirit for this Day!
Your Sister in Christ,
Le7

OK as an Agnostic I would have say that it is not entirely impossible for there to be these "so called gifts & fruits from some ghoust". With that being said, lets just try and figure out what your asking: Who are the 'they' that say an interpreder must be present when some dude has a fit in church? 'They' had best call an ambulance. The whole critisim on the healer and money is because a lot of these travleing side shows promise the poor and elderly a pain free life,"BUT YOU MUST GIVE -ITH TOO-ITH THE LOR-DA!" That is ussually why. But those small ones don't even compair to those on the TV, gold chairs....., come-on, somethings just not right. The whole blasphemy thing, your basically saying if someone "working under the lord" is found doing something wrong/illigal its OK; And if you say anything your going to hell or if its the 16th centrury a women is going to get burned to death. So I hope this helps, and to sum up I think anyone can believe whatever they want just don't try and force me to abide by your religion through my laws. Oh yeah don't burn anyone either please.

As with any other doctrinal issue it is important to know the truth or the error of the "charismatic" position. This is not a purely doctrinal matter, since in the charismatic movement in all its various forms, such as Pentecostalism, neo- Pentecostalism, "power evangelism," and the "signs and wonders" movement, emphasis is placed on phenomena and subjective experiences. These experiences, which transcend doctrinal considerations and doctrinal boundaries, are the raison d'etre of the movement. They are not merely the daily outworking of one's doctrine as distinct from his doctrinal position, but are usually crisis events that allegedly go beyond normal, traditional Christian experience.
These so-called "spiritual" experiences are either from God or not from God. There can be no neutral or partially true position. Either they are biblically true or they are false experiences. If they are biblically false then the issue is much more serious than merely another view of the Christian life, since the charismatic movement involves a spiritual experience that attempts to be in direct contact with supernatural forces. Whether the charismatics are correct can only be determined from the Scriptures and other relevant facts. By the very nature of the issue, the "gifts," such as tongues, healings, and signs and wonders, so prevalent in today's charismatic movement, are either from God or not from God. There can be no middle ground.
Evidence Contrary to the Validity of the Phenomena
Several factors give evidence that the phenomena of the charismatic movement are not the gifts and activities of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. On the other hand charismatic proponents have given no evidence, other than their assumption, that these are the same phenomena. That their numbers are growing, that the followers are enthusiastic, and that there are alleged miracles are not evidence that the phenomena are from the Holy Spirit, since all these occur in other religions. To argue that the New Testament gifts could occur today or that no verse rules out such a possibility is not enough; it must also be shown that the modern charismatic "gifts" are the same as in the New Testament. The proponents of the charismatic movement have been unsuccessful in proving either the first (the possibility of the gifts today) or the second (that these are the same phenomena). Are all phenomena automatically from the Holy Spirit simply because someone makes such an assertion, unless a verse can be found that directly states they are not? It is not enough merely to assert that charismatic phenomena are New Testament phenomena. There must be evidence that they are the same.

The simple answer is this:
People FEAR what they don't understand.
The long answer:
Everyone on earth, no matter what religion, wants a better relationship with GOD. When they see people that they perceive to have a better one with GOD than they do, they get jealous.
EVEN IN THE CHURCH!!!
Hec, Especially in the Church.
You probably have seen it. People catching an attitude with the ones praising GOD with all their might, when they should be busy Praising GOD themselves. I've even seen pastors and ministers down grade others for "gifts of the Spirit" that they may have.
If people stop worrying about judging, condemning, and labeling people, and just worry about YOU and YOURS, then the whole world would be a better place.
That's how I feel

Honestly, it's because they don't want to put forth the effort to gain those gifts operating in the churches today. It's kind of like people saying ok come on God move me off this pew if you can. If people only knew how their lives would be enriched and would change with the working of the gifts and how their churches would take off they would be amazed. I can't understand how anyone can feel the spirit of the Lord and not want Him working in their lives. It amazes me. And it amazes me that they believe that was only for times back in the Bible days when the word clearly says God never changes. So if He never changes it means it's still for us today as well. Whew..let's have church hehe.

Mostly due to tradition and erring bible teachers they are for lack of a better word "ignorant" of the workings of the Holy Spirit. It is our responsibility not to deride or tear down these people because of their unbelief but rather to walk and life it before them so they may see that the works and gifts of the Spirit is real.

Certain gifts were given as signs to the Jews that the Holy Spirit had left them and was now with the Christians. Those gifts served their purpose and no longer exist.

It's most likely because so many people like to pretend they are filled with the spirit and stand like zombies spouting jibberish. I think God is laughing at the fakers.
