Dalian, China?

Question

What is it like there? I am going in a month on business and would like to know what to expect. Any help?

I lived and worked there for three years and it was fantastic. My first choice of place to live in China. It's clean, beautiful, and exciting.

As far as weather goes, it's pretty pleasant, even in the summer. Look it up at www. weather.com, just type in "Dalian China" at the "Local Weather" bar.

The food is also great. There are lots of Korean & Japanese (and Chinese of course) restaurants. Compared to big cities like Shanghai and Beijing, Dalian is a better place to eat out, lots of choices at much lower costs. Try the local beer (Hei Shi or black lion), barbeque, and seafood.

When you are there, make sure you ask for an ocean scenery tour on Binghai Road on a sunny day. You can also check out the dozen of squres they have. I would sugget a walk on the Zhongshan Square and Renming Square at night. Xinhai Park is another popular spot to hang out in summer. I heard it's the biggest squre in Asia.

Transportation is farely cheap and convenient too. You can ride a taxi to almost every corner in the city for a few bucks. Lots of pedestrians and public buses, like many other cities in China. Traffic isn't so bad, but definitely very different from here. The traffic rule is "there are no rules on the road". So be prepared.

Clean city, the cleanest one I have ever been in China!!!! Nice shore line and it is an ice-free seaport for northern China. It is very close to Korea and Japan, so there are little Korean area and little Japanese area where you can enjoy some authentic Japanese or Korean food.

Nice, friendly people, you may find that there are lot of good looking tall girls, fashion industry is quite developed in Dalian, they organize fashion shows (Dalian International Fashion Festival) in every September.

Seafood is famous too! Abalone, sea cucumber and tiger prawns, must try items!
