I recently sent a word doc to myself through hotmail, opened the doc to continue working on it but i forgot to specify when i saved it and closed it down, it didnt prompt me to change the name or choose the save path, i've tried searching for the file name but i cant find it, i can only fine the file name in temp internet files and even then it only takes me 2 my hotmail page.
Plus, the file names that i do find are in a folder that i cant manually locate, i can paste the path in the address bar from the search window but when i try and go Docs&settings>me, there is no local settings folder and no temporary internet files folder, anyone know why this is?

you cant find local settings or temporary internet files because they are hidden automatically.

you need to enable the address bar by clicking view > toolbars > address bar

then browse to documents and settings > yourself

then add to the end of the address so it looks like this:

C:\Documents & Settings\Yourself\Local Settings\Temporary Internet files

"anyone know why this is?"
Yes, it is a hidden folder and by default Windows hides it from you, including any searches you perform. To enable hidden folders go to:

Tools -> Folder Options -> View Tab -> Make sure 'Show hidden files and folders' is selected -> Apply -> Ok.

Try again. As a side note, it may also be that Internet Explorer has removed it from the temporary internet files. If you have told Internet Explorer to clear all files upon exiting the Internet Explorer, then it will remove them no matter what.

You need to unhide the Local Settings folder.

Start->Control Panel and double click on Folder Options and click on the View tab and check the radio button Show Folders and Files.

Go to hotmail & open the doc. again.

Choose 'save as' and see which Dir. path MS word it takes you too [don't actually save or you might over-write the version with your changes :-) ] - you can 'right click' on tye old doc. and 'copy' .. then 'paste' it where you can find it later.

FYI I believe it's in a 'hidden' folder under 'Docs & Settings' / All Users, maybe in Application Data ???
