That the Office of Prophecy is for special Word from the Lord for today, for the people. And the prophetic gifts are for to encourage someone personally in the congregation or someone that is seeking Christ.

That there aren't as many called to the office of Prophet as there are gifted prophetically?

tim, The only reason you aren't born of Gods Spirit yet, is because you don't trust God. The God of the Holy Bible. You aren't receiving Gods gift of eternal life because of doubt. Without faith, it is impossible to please God, for those who seek God, must believe God Is & is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him. Just start by repenting to God (look up towards Gods blessed assurance) & repent out loud to God. You have to physically act out by speaking & reaching to God with your hands. Because faith without works is dead & works without faith is dead. So trust God with your voice. Even in your prayer closet. That means being honest to God in your prayer closet about everything that troubles you about God & what God may have allowed to happen to you by others or self called Christians.

One called to the office of the Prophet & God has answered my prayers through is http://www.kimclement.com . And the LORD assured me personally that he is the LORDs prophet. I have purchased some of his books. And check out his prophetic words for today. I believe I have a small prophetic gift. Not one for the office of Prophet.

Dave, Thanks for good answer. But some of Gods Prophets of OT prophecied Gods Judgments & when the people prayed or repented, God showed mercy. So. A true Prophet will say something is going to happen & the person or city is afraid & humbles selves before God & God hears their prayer. One man was told he was going to die then (by the prophet), but God lengthened his life (prophet also confirmed this then). Jonah was to tell Nineveh the Judgment of God but Nineveh repented. Jesus uses the story of Jonah as a symbol of Gods forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

St.Nearly, If you were a true prophet you would know that I'm holy. Only because I am redeemed.

I did know that.

Do you happen to know of some one who is a Prophet or someone who has a strong gift of prophecy? At some point I am going to need to hear from God about some things (I have been in Pentecostal churches for over 20 years and I still am not Spirit baptized and still do not know God.)

God be with you.

Yes, Pope JP II appointed Ralph Martin as a prophet. I know several others who are great prophets of God. Including, Bob Jones( not the one the college is named for) from Morningstar and a young man that I know named Mike Collar.

Keith is correct there are certain tests that a prophecy must fulfill. And a true prophet has many tested and proven prophecies.

Tim, if you have asked for the release(or Baptism in) of the Spirit God would not deny you. You may have just had difficulty yeilding to tongues.

A modern day prophet is one that REALLY knows the Word ( revelations of Gods Word ) , and is living a Holy life before God and man. Otherwise, there are openings to angels of darkness, transformed into angels of light ( not Light ), in the person. All prophetical messages are confirmed by the Word, and witness of the Holy Ghost...

The office of the Prophet is given to one man at any given time on the earth. He is the Lord's liaison to mankind. "Surely the Lord God will do nothing save He revealeth His secrets unto His servants, the prophets." Amos 3:7. The Prophet is the Lord's mouthpiece to mankind. Gordon Bitner Hinkley is that man today. He is supported by two counselors and twelve apostles, all sustained as prophets, seers and revelators within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus Christ. Many can have testimony and that spirit. It is given to each of us to know what is right and best in our lives if we will seek that revelation. This revelation, founded on the testimony of Jesus gives us the spirit of prophecy for ourselves and those that rely upon us. Thus, it is given to us to know what path we should take in our lives and how best to please our Lord.
You are not far from the truth.

Yes, but I believe that the vast majority of people calling themselves "Prophets" aren't anointed by God in that calling. This includes traveling local "Prophets," who may have a gift of prophecy, but have no right to claim the office of Prophet.

If a person is a Spirit-anointed Prophet, you'll know it. One of Jerry Falwell's followers called him a prophet during his funeral. I agree. I also think C. H. Spurgeon, Billy Graham and the like are God-anointed Prophets -- all of them called nations to repentence. If a person is truly a Prophet to a nation, they will SPEAK to the nation. So if a person you meet says they've been given the Office of Prophet, walk away from them, as their pride has engulfed their reason.

Although prophecy was a vehicle used by God to reveal His written Word, the word "prophecy" never meant anything more than speaking forth, to proclaim.

In 1 Cor. 14:3 Paul tells us what the gift of prophecy is for....

14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

And elsewhere we see that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy ...

Rev. 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: ***for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.***

And the Bible is the testimony of Jesus...

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and these are they which testify of me.

If you are into date setting and predicting events based on a voice in your head, you are not keeping with scripture. Jeremiah 23, read it, it's for you.

If you are wrong in your predictions one time, by Biblical defintion, you are a false prophet.

This date setting and spiritualizing of these things are done by people who cannot understand scripture plainly, or, they simply do not want to, and it has nothing to do with the prophecy spoken about in Corinthians.

Do you realize that there is no evidence of any kind that "prophecy" is real? That "prophecy" has such a terrible track record of being correct on anything that you'd do better tossing a coin (pure chance) than you would do relying on "prophecy?" Do you understand the human tendency to remember false positives and forget all of the times prophecy was wrong, leading to the delusional beliefs about "prophecy?"

You make statements as if they're facts, and you're completely ignorant of the only real fact, which is that "prophecy" doesn't exist. That's called a delusion. :)

Peace.

what number of the Bible, e book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants are prophecy? little or no. with the aid of "cutting-part-day" i assume you advise in restored cases. Many individuals have individual and particular prophecies (mine blanketed) of their patriarchal advantages. of course their keys come from the prophet and their authority from Jesus Christ. Orson Hyde dedicated Palestine for the return of the Jews to that land and prophesied that it may take place. it fairly is fairly worth stating that the Bible warns of persons who "seek for a demonstration". Prophecy is a gift God gives, according to the Bible. I think God calls according to a person's giftings so everyone who is gifted is called. We do not have to obey the call, but the call is there.
