As a Christian, I'll turn my cheek, but ... while I do it, I'll be going up one side of you and down the other. While Jesus suffered persecution he was never WEAK, even when he was being lead to the cross he held his ground. He maintained his position. Christian doesn't = doormat, by any stretch of the imagination.

I get angry at some of the things people say about Jesus here in this forum, but I know they are just trying to bait us and don't know why we believe in Him. I have to take a deep breath and calm down and answer in love. Sometimes even the Christians make me angry when they rise to the bait. Our human nature wants to strike back and let them have it. It has been quite a learning experience for me to respond in a way that honors the Lord. Sometimes I get tired of the same old questions being posed and wish we christians had a form of the atheist's drinking game. Maybe something like 70X7 or Go Fish! Maybe some clever Christian will come up with something.

Retaliation....no, but that only comes from praying for the strength through the Holy Spirit to help guide me in comments or answers I give. To teach with love, because I dont want to veer an unbeliever any further away from the truth than they already are with a coarse or harsh remark.. The Bible says that one day "Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess". I hate the thought of knowing that countless ammounts of people will realise that God is real after it is too late. Pray for them!

Jesus told us that the world would hate us because it hated him first. Part of "taking up your cross" and following Jesus is understanding that being identified with Christ will make you an outcast is some circles and situations. If you mean retaliate in the sense of strapping a bomb to myself and blowing up unbelievers in a market place, definitely no. That is murder. By the way...those pretend Christians who blow up abortion clinics are also guilty of murder, and I would turn in anyone...even a "Christian"...who did such a thing.

Yes. But our weapons are not carnal (anger, retaliation) but spiritual (the word of God, patience, self control, prayer); mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds.

When a person does not have the truth, they have to pick up a club.

Angers yes but retaliate no. Angry only because if they knew Him as I do they would not talk as they do. But it is my responsibility to love them and pray for them not to strike at them. Jesus does not need me to defend Him He can take care of that himself through His word and by His spirit.

Occasionally something will strike me wrong and I will have an emotional response. But Jesus always took his criticism with a good attitude regardless if the people were wrong. So in striving to be like Him, I try to keep the emotions in check.

Yes I do want to retaliate because it angers me.
The thing is, though, I know that nothing will happen if I do anything about it. It's just proving them right that Christians are hypocritical whippersnappers...which we are not.
If they don't want to believe, nothing negative that I say will help their cause anyway :)

Jesus handled insults and degradation much better than I ever could. But, yes I get angry at nonbelievers when they use their ignorance and hate to insult the God who created all.

"I pity the fools"!

No it would be a waste of time. And besides that, Jesus said it would be like this, the hate, the degrading. He also said if they hate you, they hated Me first
