NIL. ITS NIL IN EVERYONES LIFE.
A SWEET STORY- A SAINT WAS FEELING HUNGRY. HE SAW A VENDOR WHO WAS SELLING SOME FOOD. WHEN THE SAINT WENT NEAR HIM THE VENDOR OFFERED HIM THE LITTLE FOOD HE WAS LEFT WITH-A CHAPATTI AND A VERY SMALL QUANTITY OF BEANS.
THE SAINT WAS A GREAT ONE.HE KNEW THAT THIS WAS ALL THAT THE VENDOR HAD SAVED FOR HIMSELF FOR THE DINNER. THE SAINT BLESSED HIM N GAVE A PENNY TO HIM. HE SAID: "WHENEVER U R IN NEED JUST SAY THAT THE MONEY DOUBLES AND IT WILL. THE TIRED VENDOR WENT BACK TO HIS HUT AND FELL ASLEEP. NEXT NIGHT HE SAW THAT PENNY THAT THE SAINT HAD GIVEN HIM. HE THOUGHT-HOW CAN THAT B POSSIBLE BUT OUT OF SHEER CURIOSITY HE TRIED THAT WHICH THE SAINT HAD SAID. THE MONEY REALLY DOUBLED. WHAT WAS THERE NOW- HE JUST KEPT MULTIPLYING THE MONEY AND GOT RICHER EACH DAY. BUT THERE WAS NO END TO HIS GREED.

AFTER A LONG TIME THE SAINT HAPPENED TO PASS FROM NEAR HIS HOME. HE SAW THT POOR VENDOR HAD CHANGED TO A RICH MAN OF THE CITY.
NEXT EVENING HE VISITED THE VENDORS BIG MANSION. THE VENDOR GAVE HIM A LOT OF RESPECT. THE SAINT SAID- "PLEASE KEEP THIS MATCHBOX WITH YOU. I AM GOING NOW AND I WILL DIE WITHIN AN HOUR. YOU WILL DIE TOMORROW. SO PLEASE BRING THIS MATCHBOX ALONG AND GIVE IT TO ME.
THE SAINT LEFT. AND THE VENDOR KEPT WONDERING WHERE HE COULD KEEP THE MATCHBOX SO THAT HE COULD CARRY IT ALONG AFTER HIS DEATH. HE REMAINED PERPLEXED AND AFRAID ABT HIS DEATH FOR THE NEXT WHOLE DAY.

A DAY AFTERWARD THE SAINT VISITED HIM AGAIN. THE ONCE BEEN VENDOR SAID-WHY DID YOU SAY THAT WE WOULD DIE? BOTH OF US ARE STILL ALIVE?
THE SAINT SAID- "I WANTED TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CANT EVEN CARRY A TINY MATCHBOX WITH YOURSELF TO THE NEXT DESTINATION AFTER DEATH. SO HOW COME YOU ASSUME THAT YOU WILL TAKE ALL THIS MONEY WITH YOU. YOUR DEEDS ALONE WILL GO WITH YOU."

OFCOURSE THT VENDOR REFORMED.

OFCOURSE THOSE HAVING MONEY SHUD B CHARITABLE TO THE NEEDY AND DESERVING. THAT ALONE IS A PUNYA THAT CAN HELP ONE FOR LATER SPIRITUAL PROGRESS BUT FOR THOSE WHO DONT HAVE MONEY-GOD DOESNT FORBID THEM TO ENTER THE REALM OF SPIRITUALITY.

LORD KRISNA SAYS IN GARBHAGEETA-"THOSE WHO GIVE CHARITY ARE BORN RICH IN NEXT LIFE." MONEY BEGETS MONEY. THATS ALL.
edit- i dont agree with GODS EYE and Aum ji n othrs who say money is imp 4 spirituality. Mangolia is a Buddhist. Lord Budhdha left his kingdom n all comforts in quest of truth n he was enlightened(completely) under shade of a tree. but ofcourse money isnt a hinderance in path of spirituality but greed surely is.
ONE MORE EDIT for your wonderful question Mangolia-Lord Rama promised Vibhishana a kingdom even before he won the war with Ravana. When asked why he said-"I would have given my kingdom if we hadnt won the war." When he came back to Ayodhya he gave all land to Brahmins. But they refused saying-"we will worsip you lord, what do we have to do with money?" NO MONEY IS NEEDED FOR SPIRITUALITY. GOD CARES FOR THE TRUE SAADHAKS AND PROVIDES THEM WHAT THEY NEED.

This is a good question, as it means different things to different people. I know so many millionaires, and don´t know that many that are really at peace with them self. I feel the ones that are happiest are the ones that are at peace with themselves, Look at families they do pooja or part at home and this is enough for them and is better then having millions in the bank. Real spiritual people don't need materialistic things. I myself feel this way after many many years off buying everything I have ever wanted, now I am content as I am at peace with myself, but this has come from my spiritual growth over the past few years. People get jealous as they think I have lots of money but no I am at peace with what I have, as are others that open there lives too God. God is happy I feel that we worship him, in the way that we feel is OK for us. Giving donations and offerings always pleases the Gods.
Being rich does not just mean in materialistic sense but in happiness as well. Why be a millionaire and unhappy...

As far as my spiritual life is concerened money has NO power whatsoever. My spirit has no need of money. My physical body on the other hand needs money to continue it's existence during this lifetime. but that money that I need is ONLY for the maintainenece of the body, not for maintainence of my spirit.
This is very different from the mainstream religions who have professinal clergy who also MUST have money to maintain they're physical bodies. I am a Wiccan and have NO clergy (other than myself) and MY ritual supply needs are very minimal. A few candles, bottles, cups, bowls nothing extravagant. Even those things can be dispensed with as all I TRULY need to worship is myself.
No, my Goddess had nothing to do with the development of money, she's a spirit and has NO needs other than herself.
Money took over religions when the "professional clergy" found that people were willing to give it to them at first. This bred a certain dependence upon money which led to an avarice for it.
The only influence that money has over other creatures is the damage that results from people's greed to acquirte it over consideration for the other living things on the planet.
As for how many rich people there are. that would of course depend on the setting. A person amking the poverty level of income in the United States would be looked upon as being very wealthy in a third world nation and yet be unable to survive very well here in the US.
No, I do not pray to be richer at all. I DO however pray that I can meet my needs and those of my family.l If that can be done without money, fine, if money is required then all I need is enough to care for myself and my family.
MY Goddess would be insulted if I were to offer her money. She has NO need for moeny adn in fact, recognizes the HARM it can do when one devotes one's life to the acquisition of it.

Brightest Blessings,

Money can be earned by doing things like buissiness, serivce or trade. Some luck gets lots by inheritance.
Role of money in spiritual life, Well money earned to get things ie buying stuff. More we earn more we can buy. More desires can be satisfied and more can be formed.
Money teaches whats the meaing of being Greedy, Jealous, Evny.
Greedy we know we want to posses everything. Jealous when we find someone possessing which we dont have. Envy when we can never posses what someone else has.

These strong negatives takes a toll and creates anger, brutality.

But soon we find that money can buy so many things but cant buy all. Like character, Behaviour, Love, true friendship, peace of mind. And those things bought by money are not going to be permanent and we ourselves are not permanent.

Then we learn how much take it for granted we are in life.

Then we make a quest to find bliss. We then discover the happiness of giving more than asking. Then we learn difficulties of a poor and the bad side effects greed, Jealousy, pride, envy.

But for all this to happen only by grace of God. He knows the best for each one of us.

In the material world where we live depends on material, which was earlier bartered and then sold and bought through precious metals terms as coins, mohars, asharfis, rupee. It is later rupee which was earlier metal coin, a silver one, now a paper currency which is now called paper currency of all countries in all denominations and coins. Latest is the plastic money in forms of credit/debit ATM cards. The importance of money cannot be denied in life and beyond life for nothing is possible, not even religious rites, what to talk of day to day life.
God himself does not need money, nor He invented it. It was a human need and invention improved over the times. Riches are far and wide amidst the majority of the poors in the world.
No, I don't pray God for riches but for enough to spend and give others for I know that Laxmi Goddess is chanchalaa, never stays at one place but where wisdom and good will is, she stays.
My God (Bhagwaan) is happy with my humblest offerings from my soul.

For living life in this world money is the main factor. It is very important to me as a person. But money should be earned with dignity and not robbed from anyone. If u ve earned ur money u will respect it and use it wisely and not fritter it away on destructive pursuits as in case of easy come, easy go. I pray for all my needs from God only and this includes money also. Though money will not go with me when I die but I need it for living my life and the ones I leave behind will need it for my funeral also. No event of life, happy or sad can be dealt with without money. Other things, family , love, friendship can be sustained with money only and not otherwise. I shall be happy when I have ample money and God lives within me only obviously he will also be happy. So u also pray for me that I become rich so that I can make better use of my life by serving humanity and loving God.

We are part of God hence God knows everything that goes on here. If humans created money it was for the benefit it has over the barter system. Again we are him so indirectly or directly He invented it. God is a witness to everything that goes around here.
Money rules religion because of our overall insecurity and fear of death. But religion is more of a social system. If you really want to know God then leave behind all whatever your religious scriptures taught you and try to experience it on your own and if you are earnest then you will get guidance. God is a mystery which cannot be explained by written words.
Money power directly has no influence over other creatures except humans but our actions controlled by money power affect other creatures.
Very few are very rich on Earth considering overall human population of Earth and if you consider material wealth and money power as criteria.
To pray to God to become richer will be waste of time. If I want to be rich moneywise then I will pray to God in human forms, i.e. superiors, people in power, rich people, gullible people or kind people. But I may become rich and initially it will make me very happy which may last for a few years but then it will become routine and sadness and insecurity will resurface. I will pray to God to find that inner happiness which doesn't depend on others for bliss.
If you offer money to God it is your stupidity. Anything and everything here is part of him. Who are you to give him anything? It may make God in priest form happy though.

It plays great role in our spiritual life. For a person who is living with family money plays very important role. As the saying is Khali Pet Toh Puja Bhi Nahi Hoti. (Means: With empty stomach you can't even remeber god.). And even God whenever came to earth he needed it. With money you can be unidirectional and attain your path. But everything should have its limit to conclude with a verse of Saint Kabir

Saanyi Itna Dijio Ja Mein Kutumbh Samaaye,
Main Bhi Bhookha Na Rahoon Sadhu Bhi Bhookha Na Jaaye.

Considering a garden can be grown for free, love is given not paid for, and that to save the earth takes a lot of things that do not cost money, such as saving energy, recycling, etc... I 'd say money means nothing.
Trade always occured in every nation before European money.

Money playing a role now-a-days in increasing the bhakta community or sishya parampara for the present rishi/baba culture and not in older days. Money is not paper money. money should be treated as a source of living. living includes the work we are supposed to carry on not only for self realisation for just living but also make others also realise to have a just living. when this happens, we will have a good and clean society. in the process of making this, money may be required. one calls this as laxmi or something else is a different matter. one should attach more meaning to life than this. this gives meaning to real money whether it is paper money or coin money etc.
