No, Pope Benedict XVI is not a saint. That is not a matter of ill feelings, it is a matter of fact. Just because a person is the Pope it does not mean that he will be cannonized (made a saint). Also, a person is not cannonized until after he has died. The Papacy is a holy office, the Pope is the guardian of the Church, and a holy man. The pope is the successor to St. Peter, who Jesus appointed as the head of the Church. The Pope has the "authority to absolve sins, to make doctrinal judgements and to make disciplinary decisions" Some Popes are canonized as saints years after their deaths.

Not ALL Popes are Saints.

As Christains we're all CALLED to be Saints, but not all acheive this. Historically, we haven't seen too many Saints in the Papal Seat. We've been Blessed with our last Pope's; Pope Paul VI & Pope John Paul II (we love you). I belive Pope John Paul II is a Saint, however, the Church is still holding out on giving him that status offically.

Pope Benedict XVI seems to be a great humble man. He was the research behing much of JPII's works. However, to be "Declaired" a Saint (by the Church), you have to pass away, perform mirricals, and other stuff. The Church also encourages us to honor the dead in our families who have passed away, and we pray that they were "Assumed" by Jesus and Saints in heaven with God.

LottaLou is incorrect. The pope could not possibly be born again. Jesus is the first born of the resurrection. Neither is the pope a saint.

the roman catholic church.He is a Theologian ,respected,,
polished and wise.But No more, He is not God appointed but man appointed.Most Christians will talk about his piety and supposed closness to God but they hardly ever listen to what he says.He is a failure as a statesman as he is not able to adress the problems that Plague the Christiana community like Gay marriages, homosexuality,Alcoholism and drug abuse, Rape,Murder, Adultery, Divorce etc. and is not able to bring the Christian community under one roof.Only God almighty Knows who is Good yet we respect Him and never criticize him or speak ill of Him.

The Pope is a human being, just like the rest of us. Yes, he is called to holiness, just like we are.

Yes, he is a sinner, just like the rest of us.

No, he does not regard himself as 'higher' than anyone else, unlike some people on this very forum, who regard themselves as saints.

The Pope is a devout Holy Man.....and as a Catholic I respect his authority....whether he is canonized after death only time will tell....

No. You can not be named a saint until after that person dies. If you are asking personally, I do not know that much about the man to determine if he should be named one after his death.
