Abortion, embryonic stem cells, genetic engineering, all hot topics in this science v religion situation. As for the last issue specifically, anything genetically altered leads one step closer to genetically modified humans, and nothing is scarier in science to me. I mean, what if a "super baby" was "made", perfect looks in terms of symmetry and desirable features, supremely intelligent, but they decided at a young age they wanted to grow up and be a dictator? And they were "made" to be smart and charming enough to do it?

My Q, specifically, is what are your thoughts about genetic modification/engineering? I contend that morals are not genetically dictated and therefore why take the chance creating a "super person" if there is no way to ensure they will use their talents for positive purposes>

Perhaps cures, but leading to the POTENTIAL (as the genome is better understood) for making humans (like ALL of us) obsolete.

Certainly much more study is needed,we don't know yet what else we "turn on" when we turn on a specific gene. Seems that we don't know it all yet. But when the unknowns are worked out.Why not?If we can actually "intelligently design" humans, eliminate hereditary disease and who knows what we can accomplish(As I said,MUCH more research is needed, granted)We could certainly improve the quality of life of humanity better than evolution can,as we could actually direct certain beneficial changes. What's wrong with that. IDers, sorry, but man can make many improvements on your creators "intelligent design"Thumbs down away!!

Actually, there are two things certain about Genetic Engineering (and everything else!).

1) We don't have all the answers.

2) We never will.
