To the guy who said quality is better....No **** thats why this ring is IF, the second highest rating clarity on a diamond and i wouldnt be comfotable with a 1/2 carat, this is too small. so what I did is found a quality level and size that I like, Mine is a good size and it has a pretty good quality...

It sounds great... but I just wanted to mention that EGL diamond certification tends to be less strict than GIA diamond certification. EGL claims that its trying to be more strict with diamond certification, but studies consistantly show that GIA diamond certification is more strict. Be careful, because you have to compare the EGL and the GIA certification. The clarity is clearly great here, but what I'm worried about is the color. D, E, and F are considered colorless diamonds. G and H are considered near colorless diamonds. I and J, however, are considered to be somewhat yellow, especially in natural lighting. I don't know if you bought this in a store or online, but often when you go into a store to shop for a loose diamond, they'll show you a diamond. However, the diamond is under all of those flourescent lights. A lot of times you'll take the stone out into the natural light and you'll immediately see how yellow it is. Personally, I would never choose an I or J diamond for that reason. It always looks yellow in natural lighting. HOWEVER, with a white gold band, you can get away with a little bit of a yellow diamond. It's not ideal, though. The white gold setting underneath the diamond gives the diamond some white reflection to diminish the yellowish tinge of the diamond. It will still look yellowish in certain lights, though, especially natural lighting. Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to hear, but the clarity is perfect, while the color is so-so. It's decent. A Tiffany setting, though!!! That's what I'm really impressed with! Your girlfriend (future fiancee) will definitely love that! Good luck!!! You choose a great setting, and a good diamond.

Does she like princess cut?
Honestly I'd be worried about the 18K gold band. Thats rather on the soft side for a band. You might want to get a 14k gold wedding band.
And a J color is fine as long as you don't get a diamond wrap or diamonds in the wedding band.
Seriously though--it has nothing to do with the ring. How long have you 2 been together? Read through some of those books questions to ask before you get married. (There are 100 different ones on Amazon--ranging from 7 questions to 1001 questions). Do you have trust and honesty in your relationship?
At the end of the day--the rock doesn't matter. A rich man who neglects and abuses his wife can give her a 8 carat diamond on a platinum, diamond encrusted band--and she still doesn't love him. The poorest man in the world can propose with the ring from a cracker jacket box and she could still say yes. It's merely a symbol.
It's up to you to know what it symbolizes. Love, trust, respect. Have you discussed the hard questions--morals, money, life ambitions. Do you share many of those values and beliefs?
If so, she is perfect for you. She has been eagerly waiting for this w/e for quite a long time. Congratulations.

Wow, that's a large diamond and a high-carat ring. For 3000, it sounds like a great deal. The J is higher than a very clear stone but what matters is if it looks nice in normal light. The white gold is a good choice for a diamond that isn't colorless because it won't enhance any yellowness. If there's no obvious carbon spots or large feathers, you have a winner.

Sound nice. She will love it. Only problem is if she gets a wedding band with diamonds, stick to I or J color, you do not wants diamonds much whiter around it.
I bought a round brilliant with a tiffany style setting, my wife loved it. Places the emphasis on the diamond. She chose the setting, I chose the stone. Her wedding band diamonds were G or H, I chose an H color diamond.

I think you should have been less concerned about the size of it and more concerned about the quality. As a comparison for you I know someone that bought his girl a ring and got the diamond separate, it was just under 1/2 carat, VSS1, and either D or E in color. He paid over $4k for the stone alone. It appraised for much higher once it was in the custom setting he designed. Quality is just as important as size.

Where was your first date. Take her there and propose on bended knee in front of everyone. Then she don't have a prayer to say no. My husband proposed three times just to get me to say yes. 1st time we were shopping for graduation presents for friends and family on my side. We stopped for lunch in the food court. We hada saying from Braveheart. when william wallace proposed to muron he told her something to the effect about when his sons arrive. She then says I didn't know you had sons. Then he says well I don't but I was hoping you could help me with that. She then says is that any kind of proposal. We used the last three lines as a joke all the time when refering to marriage. So when he brought it up during lunch I replied back "Is that any kind of proposal?" he simply smiled and nodded. He then got up and knealt if front of me before GOd and everyone else and asked me to marry him. the second time he had finally gotten the ring I had picked out the day he first proposed and could not contain his excitment. We were sneaking around stealing time where we could because my aunt whom I was living with at the time didn't like him because he wasn't making a six figure paycheck. We met after work in a target parking lot and he asked me again in his car with the rong in hand. The last time he did was where we had our first date(Starbucks) and we knew the barista by name. He fixed our usual while my husband talked to him. He came to our table with the drinks and my husband said "before you get all hyped up on the caffine I need to ask you something" He then got on bended knee and asked the third time for me to marry him. Of course I said yes All three times he just wanted to make the third one more romantic than all the others. The Starbucks in Memphis TN is still where we share a very fond romantic memory.

I'm partial to white gold or platinum though. But that's just me.
I'm sure that it's lovely and your gf will love it.
