Colonialization. Europeans countries took over non-developed nations for natural resources or valuable minerals.

That is why there is French in Canada and Tahiti, and some in Louisiana.
We speak English, since the French and Dutch who came to North America assimilated to the larger culture, or left, except the French of Quebec.

Your question is not very specific but I assume you mean the french canadian and other areas throughout the world where french is a principle language. Most of these were either settled by french immigrants or were at least at one time, french territories and so the populations speak french. It is not unlike the large number of countries that speak English or Spanish. Somewhere in the nations heritage it was heavily influenced by the French either as colonists, immigrants or even invaders.

The main reason so many different countries speak french, is that they were settled or occupied by France. Take Canada for example, the french had control of Canada until the English took it over, but even so Quebec still is mainly french descent, and that is why Canada is duel lingual to this day.

Some are part of the French Republic and some may have been French colonies, like America was an English colony and now speaks English. We have our own dialect as do many French countries.

There are 55 members of the Francophonie (French Speaking), here is the site that has them all listed http://www.francophonie.org/oif/membres.cfm

Some African countries were colonised by France (rather than Britain) and so French is still a widely spoken language in that country. Therefore it is not uncommon to hear an African person speaking French

along time ago alot of the french peoples and culture settled in many areas across the world(the french people didn't always stay like the culture did), such as Louisiana, Canada, Africa and so on, as the cultures settle the language along with it would then take hold of the area.

Because in 1782 Jesus crossed the Delaware River to defeat the English at the Battle of Fort Sumter, causing the French fleet to scatter across the world.
